Is it realistic to expect your DC to do this much around the house ?

Was trying to work out if my DSS is doing a fair amount around the house for the pocket money he gets. So did a bit of research and found this list ..... bloody hell ! My DH won't even do half of this ! Is this for real or is DSS getting an easy time of it !!

A little bit unreasonable. My five year old cleans up toys, picks up rubbish and helps me sweep. My two year old helps pick up toys.

My almost 2 year old does about half the things on the 2-3 list Grin

...But that's because he's still at the follow around mummy and copy all she does age. Long may it last!

Oh I know they don't do everything I was just surprised! My 10 year old DSS makes his bed, puts away his clothes, cleans and sets the table - does a general tidy, is great at pouring wine and making tea ! Lol ..... but I would not let him load my Denby into the dishwasher or ask him to Hoover or clean the loo or cut the grass (god knows I've only done that twice in my life !)

I don't even do all that!

My 3 year old could manage the 2-3 chores over several days but only half a job. I mean he picked all the washing up off the floor the other day and put it back in the washing basket (I was trying to sort whites from coloureds) and then took clean things out the drawers to put in there also. Grin

Wow love the list (have printed and pinned on my dd's doors for later!) Smile What has worked in my house is linking pocket money to keeping their rooms clean, if I open the door and it's full of crap, they get a cross on a calendar, so loose the money for that day. They also get extra for hoovering, properly cleaning and changing their beds per week. They don't get an awful lot of money per week. My teenagers room is spotless as she likes going shopping now.

If you don’t let your toddler hoover you are missing a trick! Since about 2.5 my DS has delightedly helped keep dust at bay with a DustBuster. The charge lasts just long enough for attention span and it makes a massive difference to overall cleanliness.

I don’t believe in pocket money for chores. I have to do them too and no one pays me! The more ingrained the belief that everyone pulls their weight in a household the better.
I have been out with enough domestically useless men to feel very strongly about this
