Have you ever had a reaction to Zopiclone (sleeping tablet)?

Was prescribed this in place of diazepam despite me using diazepam sparingly for about 7 years and working well with it. Due to severe anxiety causing insomnia I asked for some but got this instead.

Long story short, it caused me to have a hallucination and end up injuring myself. I have vague memories of what I did while on it but my partner has recounted to me that I went hysterical, violent and he had to physically restrain me. I am not normally a violent person at all.

Once the drug wore off, I was confused and really upset.

What I want to know is, has this happened to anyone else? I’ve been googling it and I can find vague reference to mood disturbances but nothing quite as severe as what happened to me.

I had a similar experience with a local anaesthetic when I was a teen (passed out, woke up and thought I’d been captured by the CIA, hallucinated people coming after me and started fighting people to escape), so fully aware this might me specific to me. But if so I’d like to know why.

Any ideas? Wasn’t sure where to post this so put it here for traffic.

I've taken it 30+ times with no side effects whatsoever apart from a metallic taste in my mouth. But then I was prescribed it for insomnia rather than anxiety.

Your reaction to it and reaction to other drugs seems to be rather extreme. Perhaps they should do a study on you?

Personally I find it the only thing that works for me. I like Zopliclone - have horrendous insomnia and end up taking a tablet, sometimes a couple of times a week. I have had it for years.

I have bought weird shit on Ebay when you get to that stoned sort of stage! I really need to get off the Internet and go to bed at that point. Once bought 5 pairs of (almost identical) earrings. When they arrived I didn't like any of them! It does taste nasty and I do eat a load of crap sometimes. But I'm never sure if this is side effect or just my shit eating habits.

shouldnt did they say anything else about you not metabolising drugs correctly? Because I wonder if I’m similar due to the local anaesthetic experience.

Hmm. I don't sleep when stressed but no anxiety. Occasionally when I've survived on 4-5 hours for a fortnight i take a zopiclone. Within about 45 minutes solid, hard sleep commences. A good 8-10 hours to gsf me back on track. No bad taste either. Probably take about 28 a year.

Now when my Dr tried me on Amitryptiline - oh no , never again that made me zombie like. Could not shift zomviexom the next morning

I’d be interested, but I’m a weirdo in general (aspergers, synaesthesia, weird chronic fatigue type illness they can’t find out what it is) so unsure how useful it would be to the population!

Interestingly, morphine does nothing for me, pain wise or anything else. I am clearly just weird with drugs.

They didn't, no, just said not to take if can avoid it. Means I've had impacted wisdom teeth out on just a local but can put up with that. The diazepam was a horrible feeling and that was just 2mg!

I'm actually OK with codeine, morphine etc. Take 30/500 codeine nightly with just sleepiness. Morphine makes me hallucinate but I know its not real iyswim. Dihydrocodeine is the only other med I'm not great with but hospital accidentally OD'd me on opiates , I'd already had a lot at home from GP then even more on admisson, so that might explain that one.

No reaction except just zonking out completely for 8-10 hours which was what I wanted. Was prescribed it when DH was seriously ill in hospital and couldn't sleep for the worry. Still have a few left, didn't need to take all of them. No after-taste, no side effects.

shouldnt Diazepam I am completely fine with but lorazepam (I think) sends me mental.

It’s a nightmare because my anxiety seems to respond with the opposite effect to most anti anxiety drugs.
