Name changed for this.....

So the other day a friend posted on fb that his daughter was 100% Irish. Dad is English. Mother is Irish. Daughter was born in England. They live in England. His reasons for this is that the majority of English people are dick heads and are hated around the world. Irish are lovelier people and are liked all over the world. He wants her to be liked. I called him out on it and he said he wasn't racist as his wife is Irish?

This behavior concerns me for many reasons but I was after other people's thoughts.

It’s not racist but it’s a bit stupid and discriminatory. I’m half Irish and I think this is silly.

NotAnotherEmma · 06/02/2018 21:48

Can't speak for the rest of the world but the English aren't hated in the states at least. The Irish are viewed as okay mostly. If that helps at all.

Standinguptononsense · 06/02/2018 21:48

That was my point. Just because he says it doesn't make it true.

@lemonysSnicket yes that makes more sense

He referred to race so I followed suit without really thinking.

Easy solution.

BLOCK.

Don't waste your time reading such shit.

Standinguptononsense · 06/02/2018 21:55

Racism or not its not nice to read. He's been blocked don't worry.

Has he clarified if she’s down south or up north Irish? If she’s a lesbian down south, she can have a lovely gay wedding, but hopefully if she has an unwanted pregnancy she’ll be forced to go through with the pregnancy. If she’s from up north, she’s fucked as a lesbian, because she wouldn’t be able to get married or have an abortion. Yay. Lucky Irish woman.

PositivelyPERF · 06/02/2018 22:03

I don’t know how that ‘hopefully’ got in there. Must have been a DUP spellchecker. 😬

Ghanagirl · 06/02/2018 22:06

I’m sorry OP but think you have an issue as you’ve referred to this as racism when it’s clearly not

Chatterbitch · 06/02/2018 22:29

He sounds like a prize prat, someone who virtue signals by pretending to or assuming to despise England. Tell him to stop being a hypocrite and accepting all the benefits living in England had to offer then and go and live in Ireland. Offensive fool.

Rollonweekend · 06/02/2018 22:54

The Irish are viewed as okay mostly.

I’d say they’re viewed more favourably than that but that’s not taking away from the English

HolyAngelus · 06/02/2018 23:07

If she’s a lesbian down south, she can have a lovely gay wedding, but hopefully if she has an unwanted pregnancy she’ll be forced to go through with the pregnancy.

Sigh. No, she won't be 'forced to go through with the pregnancy'. She cannot legally terminate in Ireland at the moment, but a referendum on legalising abortion is scheduled for a few months' time, and is very likely to alter the current legal situation, and she is at liberty to travel outside of Ireland for a termination (or buy pills online). The State-funded Family Planning Association offers free abortion abroad information, and free post-abortion checkups and counselling. It's a crappy, reactionary situation a lot of people are working hard to change, but Ireland is not actually Gilead from The Handmaid's Tale.
