To call the RSPCA?

There's a car parked outside our flat with two dogs locked in it. They've been barking non stop for the past hour and an half.

A window on the car is open and it's currently -1 outside at the moment. They must be freezing.

As well as the constant barking being irritating, we feel so bad for the dogs. I've never had dogs so don't know if this would be something normal to do, or even if dogs would be as cold as we would, sat in a car with the window open for an hour and a half.

WIBU to ring the RSPCA? Or is this not the kind of thing they'd deal with?

You're just quoting the link, Mother.

Do you have the same issue with boarding kennels then? Police dog kennels? Farm dogs? Working dogs?

My dogs' water has never frozen overnight in the car, even in Scotland in the snow. It froze once in the tent, but I just replaced it in the morning. They didn't die from not having a drink overnight.

It's all a bit ridiculous really.

The difference @Valerrie is that you said yours were sled dogs and therefore used ti being in that kind of weather. Most pets are not.

Valerrie · 05/02/2018 21:47

I didn't specify breed. Yes, I have Malamutes, however I have two other breeds that aren't typical sled dogs but still run with them. A couple of hours in a car will not harm an average pet dog.

In a hot car though, it's a completely different story.

ShawshanksRedemption · 05/02/2018 21:56

But your dogs are used to it Valerrie is my point. Most pet dogs, used to indoor living, are not. General advice from various pet welfare websites is not to let pet dogs stay outside even in a car when it's a freezing temp. OP had to make a judgement call, and there's no way for her to know if those dogs were used to it or not, and the very fact they were barking non-stop was enough to concern her.

Lovemusic33 · 05/02/2018 21:57

Depends on the breed of dog. I know someone who leaves there huskie in their car all night when they work and the dog is fine.

I would be more worried about the noise rather than the dogs getting cold so I would call 101 rather than RSPCA.

Valerrie · 05/02/2018 22:04

Not really. They're indoor dogs unless we are at a rally which aren't that often.

I agree about the noise though.
