How did you lose YOUR beautiful hair?

People would always comment on my hair, naturally thick, very long and dark brown. I never really appreciated in and always wanted to be blonde but now my hair is not so long, not so thick and coloured completely from a bottle (cry!) I look back with wistful nostalgia. So, yes, basically in my case it was AGE that took my hair away!

I think an iron deficiency. I'm devastated. I'm very self-conscious about it and HATE seeing myself in the mirror as I can see my shiny scalp through my sparse hair. I am not the same person.

Thyroid cancer. Loads dropped out before diagnosis. Bald patch at front and side. After radioiodine treatment it thinnied more.
Nearly 7 years later it doesn’t grow past my jaw as it snaps off or falls out.

CastielIsMyAngel · 05/02/2018 22:25

Anaemia. It was long and straight and shiny and dark brown. Then it fell out in clumps until I was almost bald. It's growing back coarser and with a wave to it and doesn't lie flat on the top, it's kind of springy. I hate it at the minute. I don't feel like me anymore.

I turned 18 and developed an ED ... murdered my hair.

stevie69 · 06/02/2018 16:14

I shave my head Blush

Mrsdraper1 · 06/02/2018 16:21

Mine fell out after giving birth both times. Very thin on top. Adds to my very low confidence.

CheeseAndBeans · 06/02/2018 16:24

Pregnancy. I had lovely thick long brown hair that thinned after having DD1. It never really recovered and thinned even more after having DD2. More greys also now.

DearSergio · 06/02/2018 16:25

Stress and PND, moved in to look after my mum whilst she was having chemo and recovering from a op, looking after her and home schooling was just too much. I loved my hair, it was long thick and a glossy brown. What's grown back looks like chicken feathers now Sad

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 06/02/2018 16:27

I've never owned a head of luscious thick hair so nothing to lose

Mine has always been of the fine and limo variety

Flowers for those who have undergone chemo

whiskyowl · 06/02/2018 16:29

I was put into a chemically-induced menopause at the age of 37, and my hair never grew back the same afterwards.

princesskatethefirst · 06/02/2018 17:19

Me too whisk, at 31, my hairs been crap since 😔

BigBaboonBum · 06/02/2018 17:22

Pregnancy and motherhood, but really it’s just hair and it doesn’t matter at all. People are beautiful without any of it

coastalchick · 06/02/2018 17:23

Stress which led to alopecia. 4 years now and it's not grown back. Pregnant now too so expecting it to suffer more

whiskyowl · 06/02/2018 17:24

@princesskatethefirst I've been wondering for AGES if other women having the same treatment had experienced the same effect! Thank you for replying - it is actually really helpful to know! Flowers

reallyanotherone · 06/02/2018 17:29

I don’t think i’ve ever had “beautiful hair”.

It’s always been pretty much the same as it is now. A few grey hairs around the temple.

Same as bigbaboon above. It’s just hair. Outside of hollywood styling i don’t think i’ve ever come across anybody who’s hair stopped me in my tracks. I had a friend who used to go on about her hair being her “crowning glory” and i just never got it. My mum raves about curly hair on little girls, but i don’t think it defines their beauty at all.

Amoregentlemanlikemanner · 13/02/2018 17:48

Coastal,
Stress and (probably) screwed up hormones left me with v sparse hair (dreaded seeing photos)
Pregnancy cured it, just as the trichologist said it would
Turned out I needed a massive dose of hormones to “reset” it.
Sadly it is now shedding again (perimenopause?) but I am grateful I had that 16 year respite.

Hope you get the same.

Fruufruu · 13/02/2018 18:30

Genetic baldness. My hair's been thin enough to see my scalp quite badly since my mid 20s and I'm getting proper bald spots on top now I'm in my 30s. It was so lovely and thick when I was a teenager. :(

ToastyFingers · 13/02/2018 18:43

I bleached all the life out of it, in order to dye it stupid colours. Now I have to dye it brown as I'm quite grey.

GeekyBlinders · 13/02/2018 18:43

Pregnancy, b12 deficiency and probably peri-menopause now. I used to have gorgeous hair, I hate seeing it in the mirror now.
