To ask for advice on where to buy a dress

I’m posting for traffic.

I’ve got a wedding coming up next month and need a dress.

I’m a size 18-20, 5’6 but seem to carry a lot of weight on my belly, I also hate my arms!

I dread occasions like this as I always think I look hideous whatever I wear.

Has anyone got any advice on what sort of thing to go for or any shops/websites etc.

Haven’t got a huge budget for the dress, definitely would prefer something under £50.

Titania that’s what I thought too. However the dress isn’t particularly weddingy either (but in all honesty neither is the wedding - anything goes which is fabulous) will have a look when I’ve put it together, would just save me buying yet ANOTHER pair of shoes!

Adidas I absolutely adore Lindybop but for some reason I just couldn’t find anything that I liked on there this time which is surprising as it’s never let me down before.

I use a shop called Roman, their stuff is so flattering, pretty and reasonably priced. Xx

I just bought this for my daughter's Christening 😊 I so hope it looks nice on me!

I'm an 18 too and often I find it's just better to wear what I know suits me even if it's a bit plain so that I'm comfortable in it, wear a bra that actually fits and spend my extra cash on a tan, hair, make up and nails. Since I put on weight I'm no good in really high heels unless they are boots. My feet rub too much.

TitaniasCloset · 05/02/2018 22:50

That's a lovely colour that purple.

hollowtree · 05/02/2018 22:56

Thank you titanias I really love it!

TeeniefaeTroon · 05/02/2018 22:59

If you like Lindy Bop, try Lady V London. Lots of very flattering dresses.

AdidasGirl · 05/02/2018 23:23

Maybe try Collectif too. Same sort of thing as Lindy and Joanie.

The German website Navabi specialises in more forgiving clothes for the larger amongst us and is always reducing prices if their stock. I haven’t bought a dress from anywhere else for years - and I buy a lot of dresses.

Imnotposhjustquaint · 06/02/2018 16:17

Well, the dress arrived today, absolutely hideous! Wrapped around my waist nicely but didn’t cover my boobs and was much shorter than it looked in the picture!

Anyway, have seen a few others I like so will send that one back and try a couple more.

Oh that's a shame OP! Give us more of a clue of what you are looking for again to remind us and the ideal budget.

I tried on the Sea Salt dress that someone recommended upthread, and it's lovely but not for the top heavy. Made my cleavage look the size of the Gran Canyon.

Getting nice dresses when you're big is a nightmare. One of my well-endowed friends swears by Gina Bacconi (sp?), but they're not cheap.

I recently got this from Rosegal and Love it. I am 5' and a size 24 Au/Uk. Most of that is my stomach

Sorry that mass of blue text should link to two dresses I should have separated them. What do you like about any dresses people have put up? What do you hate or know won't suit you?

TitaniasCloset · 06/02/2018 20:19
