SaucyJack

I broke a tooth on a large piece of grit in an M&S ready meal some years back (about 10?)
I had to post it off to them and they said they had not received it.
(I sent it signed for).
I think they sent me £20?
My dentist's bill was considerably higher.

Topseyt · 05/02/2018 13:03

£500 is plenty.

Most major supermarkets and other retailers do on occasion have to do a product recall. Not just Aldi. They can be fined over whatever the problem was and they will also presumably have to ditch the remainder of that batch of the product that they still have in stock. I guess too that they will have to refund any customers who do return stuff to them.

I'm not a big fan of Aldi though. Poor quality "fresh" fruit and vegetables which go off within a day or so of purchase amongst other things.

falsepriest · 05/02/2018 13:04

£500 and a free half-rat, bargain!

JacquesHammer · 05/02/2018 13:05

find a rat in my food you best pay up!!!

For what? What have you actually suffered?! I mean sure, a refund on the veg and a gesture of goodwill, but really?

People will try and make money out of anything won't they?

Alisvolatpropiis · 05/02/2018 13:06

You sound classy, op Wink

SnippitySnappity · 05/02/2018 13:06

basset I have found a piece of stone in lentil based ready meals at least 3 times I can think of in the last 2 years - I've not bothered to report and who knows howmany I've swallowed?

I once had a vacuum sealed douwe egberts instant coffee break on me and they sent lots of vouchers and replacement coffee with me just emailing them - I ended up feeling bad I reported it. But not so bad to return all the free coffee :)

SnippitySnappity · 05/02/2018 13:07

no really, what you want to know is what they've done to try and stop installing rats in their food going forward. The compensation doesn't really matter!

Soubriquet · 05/02/2018 13:09

£500 is fine!

No one was hurt.

I remember I got £30 worth of vouchers when I found a spider in my chocolate bar. Actually init as cooked not just sat on it. I nearly ate it Envy

I was quite chuffed to get £30..even if it was vouchers. It was right near Easter so that paid for everyone's Easter eggs

ArcheryAnnie · 05/02/2018 13:09

It's all a bit "won't you think of the kiddies". £500 is fine, plus they will have had a payment from the Sun, I bet.

Soubriquet · 05/02/2018 13:12

You best stay out of my freezer OP.

I have some adult mice and baby rats in there Grin. Sometimes even have day old chicks

TenancyTroublesAgain · 05/02/2018 13:14

You "feel" like at least 1k, based on what? You're literally picking numbers out of thin air.

OutyMcOutface · 05/02/2018 13:14

Well so long as they didn't eat it and didn't suffer and psychological problems triggered by the rate £500 seems like a fair amount, more than fair even.

Dahlietta · 05/02/2018 13:15

Soubriquet, you should get yourself over to Aldi - I hear they do cheap supplies of that kind of thing Wink

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/02/2018 13:15

A bag of mixed veg? That would be the ratatouille then

I'll get my coat ...

Soubriquet · 05/02/2018 13:17

Good idea Dahlietta

In fact, I'll complain if there are NO rats!

falsepriest · 05/02/2018 13:18

@Puzzledandpissedoff

You can get them in the bouquets of flowers too. Just ask for the Rhodentendrons Flowers Grin

UgandanKnuckles · 05/02/2018 13:20

Compensation for what?

Topseyt · 05/02/2018 13:20

I could really do with an extra £500 this month.

Should I go to Aldi and hope to buy a bag of veg with a rat in it?

RedDogsBeg · 05/02/2018 13:21

Aldi are not installing rats in the their frozen vegetables Snippity, this will have happened at the suppliers/producers of the frozen vegetables who no doubt supply several major supermarkets. Aldi will be taking further action with their suppliers and it will be harsh.

It's not uncommon for creatures to be in vegetables, they do come from fields but suppliers should have sufficiently robust practices to eliminate them from contaminating the end product.

babyccinoo · 05/02/2018 13:23

Do you eat out OP? If yes, you regularly eat worse.

Even your chocolate can have two rat hairs in it, according to law.

Bon appetit.

Chloe1984 · 05/02/2018 13:24

Bet she thought that she hit the jackpot when she found that, she’s probably getting at least double that for selling her soul, sorry I mean story to that paper.

A few years ago I bought a packet of Jaffa Cakes and when I opened the sealed packet they were smothered in peanut butter, they told me they had been made in a factory that had no risk of nut contamination. Sent them the packet in the post, not because I wanted compensation as all I lost out on was a packet of Jaffa Cakes, but wanted them to know that it had happened as if that had been opended by the wrong person that could have been deadly.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/02/2018 13:24

You can get them in the bouquets of flowers too. Just ask for the Rhodentendrons

Brilliant, @falsepriest Grin Grin

Tika77 · 05/02/2018 13:27

Rebecca :-))

I shop in Lidl, it could have happened anywhere and it's very possible I wouldn't notice. If the contents are brick solid, I just smash it on the worktop and get out as much as I need. I'll be fully opening every bag after this though.

pumpersnatch · 05/02/2018 13:31

OnlyFoolsnMothers You'd best " pay up " for what though ?

Whats the money for ?? No it probably wasn't very nice, but no one died ?
These things happen ! It's bit gross but a good will voucher as an apology and that'll do durely ? £500 seems really generous to me !!

Basseting · 05/02/2018 13:36

Tika my bags of frozen veg are often mice'd solid too Grin
I shall also be checking contents more carefully.
Though I did have lots of teeny caterpillars in some frozen peas once.
Co op I think?
