To not cancel my single person occupancy reduction if I have someone to stay?

Boyfriend has asked to stay for just under 3 weeks when between tenancies. This is fine, I don’t plan to charge him anything, he can contribute to food etc.

My friend says I need to get the single person occupancy discount removed on my council tax bill - do I?

Technically this will be your boyfriends sole and main residence for the period he is between properties and you do not qualify for Single Person Discount. This will probably be queried on their next Single Person Discount review if he has changed any mail to your address but if he has left after only a few weeks and has his own address then they shouldn't be too bothered. I work in the Council Tax department.

Elf no....her boyfriend will be "of no fixed abode" because the OP's house isn't a permanent place of residence.

auspiciouspanda has posted above that as long as the guest stays less than one month then no need to inform council, and they work in this field, so there's your answer!

Council tax administrator here! As already advised by two other pps. You will not lose your discount as this is temporary. Should the situation change and he becomes a permanent resident please let inform the council

That's not the case at all. This address would be classes as his sole and main residence for the period as he has no alternative address. This is the case for all councils I have worked with. There is no set number of weeks, months or days.
