Just that really. I've been having a relaxing morning watching the Heathrow airport show. I'm a nervous flyer but I love the airport part of it.

I love being there first thing in the morning where it's just all waking up and still a bit quiet. We check in as soon as the desk opens and then we find a nice table and seat near a window, get some bacon barms and a brew and we chill out. Kids have their airport activities. Me and the eldest DD have a little wander into the shops when they open (youngest DD doesn't like going in shops) and then DP does the same. We always go straight to the gate as soon as we're allowed and do the exact same there. Not going abroad this year and talking about it is making me want to lol x

@Tinkerbec I have to get on the plane straight away otherwise my anxiety would stop me getting on at all. I get really anxious at take off and landing but I'm ok when I'm actually in the air x

Lunchtime. You're not getting up and the crack of dawn and rushing about, but you're not hanging around half the day waiting to leave either.

iloveMiWadi · 04/02/2018 16:37

Love getting up in the middle of the night to fly. Then again it's nice to be able to chill for the day then go to the airport.

Get to airport, through security straight away, go get some food/drink

wait for the gate number to show, then go hang around that area, don't bother queuing up usually

OliviaStabler · 04/02/2018 16:39

I prefer lunchtime flights. I get to get to the airport and have a nice breakfast as a few drinks (nervous flyer) then have lunch on the plan and then a good old nap.

What are 'bacon barms'?

Justabadwife · 04/02/2018 16:41

I've only flown once 😕 but we flew early early morning, we had to be at Manchester Airport for 3.30am the plane was so quiet, it was lovely. I had a 6am cocktail on the flight because that's acceptable on holiday 😉.

We go abroad again soon and have got another early flight, I loved being at the hotel mid morning.

Very early morning flight with a stay at an airport hotel the night before. In destination hotel by lunch time. Bliss.

Having flown the other day without my children for the first time in 10 years, I think my favourite time to fly is any time without the kids. Grin I could do what I wanted, when I wanted, without having to worry about them. Then on the flight I could read uninterrupted, and I got a window seat.

I like early morning flights best, I live a 10 minute drive from my local airport and never go anywhere that has longer than an hour's commute at the other end if I can help it. Don't like arriving somewhere unfamiliar in the dark as I like to get my bearings and check for bugs.

winterinmadeira · 04/02/2018 17:00

V early mornings. No one at the airport; the roads are relatively empty; and we get to our destination in time for lunch or a nap

DandelionAndBedrock · 04/02/2018 17:08

We had a great morning flight from Gatwick where we did day before check in - arrived at about 8pm after the flights for the day had gone (I think we were with Thomson or someone) but check in desks still all open. We literally had a choice of desks, and no queue. Checked in, left suitcases, they took the hotel we were staying at so they could contact us with delays.

Checked into hotel, dinner and a drink there, crashed in bed (slept in old underwear which we binned at the hotel), shower and breakfast next morning and waltzed through security just with handbag/rucksacks.

I like to land shortly after lunchtime, regardless of what time that requires take off.

That sounds awful. It does feel more normal when in the air.

In your case I totally understand. My oh is terrified too but it works for him just getting on at the last minute.

@Notevilstepmother Thanks. Sounds yum!

Yambabe · 04/02/2018 17:45

We mostly fly shorthaul within Europe so I like to go about 9am. Get to the airport before rush hour starts, get to the destination for lunchtime usually.

Coming home though I like an early afternoon flight, about 1-2pm. Gives us time for a final breakfast at the hotel and no rush to get to the airport. Quick bite to eat after security and before boarding and we're home by teatime. I find early morning flights home stressful as you have to rush to get to the airport, and late evening ones boring as you're at the destination all day but can't do much as you have your baggage with you.

ankasi · 04/02/2018 19:50

I like to maximise my time away, so outbound I prefer to fly in the (early) morning and back fairly late, so I land roughly around 8pm.

mumof2sarah · 04/02/2018 20:01

@Notevilstepmother am sat chuckling, I always forget it's called different things in different places Grin
