By themselves. Ds who is nearly 12 seems to think individually they are a healthy and nutritious thing. He is in a strop as I've told him he needs a more filling breakfast. What do you think?

Dont make an issue out of it OP. I have a 10yo who flips from podgy as hell to lanky and skinny with every growth spurt.

What is his weight and height?

Iwillstartagainonmonday · 04/02/2018 10:07

I've offered to cook something. He doesn't want it.

Maybe he's just not that hungry first thing in the morning? DD has to get up pretty early for her school (semi rural - only one school bus there and back). She just cant face anything 'heavy' at that time of the day. Her Dad was the same. He used to leave to start work at stupid o clock and he would always have his 'breakfast' at his lunchtime break.

In the end I did scrambled egg on brown toast for everyone. Ds tried one bit and said it was disgusting so I said eat the yoghurt.

How has a 12 year old never tried scrambled eggs? And then you let him leave it and have the yoghurt he wanted...I wonder what behaviour he's learnt from this exchange?

Why are you buying frubes and fridge raiders if you don't want him to eat them

This.

Cook and peel a batch of boiled eggs and buy some Yeo Valley instead of frubes (you can get some decent yoghurts in squeezy pouches).

Whatshallidonow He's 12, not a toddler. Old enough to know what he wants for breakfast. And I don't cook scrambled eggs either because I think they're rank. At least one of my kids has never had them, at least at home.
OP If you don't want him to eat fridge raiders then don't buy them. Though a lot of kids go into the shop before school and spend their pocket money on sweets and snacks so he might start doing that instead of eating breakfast at home.

YABU because he can only eat them if you buy them. Fridge raiders are horridly processed chicken and frubes are full of sugar and thickeners etc. Why not buy natural greek yoghurt and have him sweeten it with some fruit. And if he needs meat or protein for breakfast and won't eat something hot, then cooked and cooled chicken breast strips left in the fridge should do the trick. That would be a great breakfast for a growing lad. Lots of protein and good fats
