Ds currently attends a special needs college as a day placement. The journey is taking two hours there in back in the three days he attends..he was Refused a residential placement at this college due to having a history of overdosing. He's not overdosed and that was a very small one since May. Mental health team are classing him as low risk. We've just been sent his ehcp amendmend with this college named and are thinking of appealing for residential as by the time of the hearing the college should have a good idea of his needs

yes he now has a day placement at the college but it's clear the traveling is going to affect his wellbeing. My logic in appealing now would be that they will have had time to get to know him and may just argree to let him be residential.

no harm in appealing.

Has he overdosed on more than one occasion? I'm not clear from your OP. It would depend how much supervision there would be overnight if he did get a residential place.

He's not overdosed and that was a very small one since May

User700800 · 03/02/2018 22:41

Yes four times the rest are almost two years ago

I was confused too but I think the op meant:

He's not overdosed - and that was a very small one - since May

Iyswim?

Appealing will do no harm at all. It really is worth a try.

Do they have written policies on residential placement?

User700800 · 04/02/2018 12:23

He's overdosed four times three times in 2016.the small one was in May 2017 so by the time we got a hearing it will be year.

It's a section 41 so by technically terms if the la sat they can't oppose the appeal due to lack of evidence they will have to accept it.

You’ve got nothing to lose so I would appeal

Calvinlookingforhobbs · 04/02/2018 12:28

I’m really sorry but I would read that as your some has attempted to take his own life with medication entrusted to him 4 times in the last 24 months. For me, it would be a massive concern. Are you able to provide evidence of interventions or changes that have been introduced to help your son’s mental health? Sorry if I’m using the wrong terms or coming across as unhelpful. I’m just thinking your best bet is to perhaps not focus on the passage of time since the last attempt, but on the changes made since then?
