Trapped wind in muscles??

Namechanged as quite outing

Dh has this really weird thing where he gets random pain (could be back, arms or legs) and if you rub or press these points on his body, he will continuously burp. Eventually the pain will subside (often after a good minute or two of burping). Doctor said it's more habitual than anything else and couldn't offer any explanation. We've googled and not found anything. One time he was in absolute agony and we had to phone NHS24.

Does anyone else experience this???

Get him some Japanese peppermint and make him drink it in hot water. It's amazing for releasing trapped wind (if that's what it is - I had surgery and they had to inflate my abdomen with gas, that stuff was incredible for the trapped gas afterwards).

Thanks will try that - any recommendations?

Referred pain is a thing and guts are incredibly important to just about everything (much more important than people realise).

Nerves from the spinal cord connect to both muscles and organs. Those same nerves that link to specific organs in our gut also link to specific muscles in the back and neck.

So it's not all that strange that he has pain in strange places so to speak.

The mint is great btw, I second that suggestion, mint capsules do wonders for my bloating and IBS cramping!

Well, trapped wind can cause intense pain, particularly in the chest/back. No idea why it would cause pain in his legs though. Have you tried keeping an eye on what DH eats and seeing if there's any particular trigger for his gas?

dovegrey18 · 03/02/2018 22:33

Idont- do you suggest probiotics then?

Bex - we cannot identify any triggers

I actually suggest FODMAP elimination diet!

I have identified every trigger of my IBS that way and it has helped enormously. If I want to splurge (and I do) I take mint oil capsules (extended release from one of the health shop places) for a while before and after.

I wouldn't be suprised if your husband has IBS as it can take many many forms.

In some alternative therapies, burping, yawning etc is a sign that you are releasing or shifting energy. Google accupressure points - if you are massaging any of these and he is burping it could be what is happening. My massage therapist burps when he does this.

Last year I had excrutiating pain in my shoulder and upper arm, there was no obvious reason to the pain I had just woken up one day like that. No injury at all had occurred.

I couldn't move my arm without awful pain and had no strength in the arm to use it. It lasted a good few days before going suddenly and I was back to normal.

When I did a bit of online googling, it seemed that trapped wind was a common cause of sudden pain in the upper arms?!

So strange!

Sometimes I get pain in my ears when I have trapped wind, it’s really odd.
