Not to go back?

I've recently taken up an activity again after a long break (think something along the lines of language lessons, or a dance class) and have been attending lessons in a group setting.

Today I turned up for my session to discover I was having a private lesson. The teacher was not one I had had before (there are three and I've been taught by the other two previously). She could not explain why I was down for a private lesson. As far as I was aware, I booked for the same time as previously on the same day so I assumed it would be a group class as before, but I did not specifically request a group lesson IYSWIM.

The private lesson was awful as I much prefer learning in a group environment and really disliked the focus being only on me. At the moment I am trying to remember old skills and don't feel like I will benefit from one on one lessons for the time being until I have my confidence back.

After the lesson the lady teaching me was clearly unsure what to charge and spoke with the owner of the facility, who said I had to pay for a private lesson even though I had not requested this and as far as I know was booked in for a group session. This was awkward as I'd brought the exact money with me to pay for the class based on it being a group lesson.

I wouldn't have minded so much if it had been an activity where I would have really enjoyed the one on one time, but I ended up paying more for a lesson that I really didn't enjoy and got nothing out of.

I have emailed my usual teacher (as she was the one who booked me in for this week's session) asking her to clarify what I was booked in for and also get her thoughts on the situation. Depending on her response, AIBU not to go back? It's knocked my confidence in the activity a bit and I didn't like the owner's attitude in making me pay more when there had clearly been some kind of mistake.

I’d be put out at paying more but then you did go ahead and have the lesson. Was the group session just not on or did it go on in another room and you couldn’t join? It probalay would put me off that they were disorganised.

You should have said no at the beginning, that you were not signed up for a private lesson, and that is not what you wanted. As you then had it, I would expect you are liable to pay it.

There was no one else there to have a group lesson with so it was either have the private lesson or nothing at all.

Well I haven't received any kind of reply at all and have found another place where I could have lessons... how do I go about cancelling the next lesson I booked without any confrontation? I hate doing stuff like this Blush

Email them and tell them you want your money back and are cancelling the remainder of the lessons that you booked, due to their being unable to provide such lessons.

Can you cancel by email?
