WIBU to go on the Apprentice?

I've recently started a small business and I'm a big fan of The Apprentice. I've watched every series and I've definitely got more common sense than most of the candidates. So this year I filled in the application form.
I've been invited to audition in a couple of weeks on a Saturday morning.
I'd love to go, but my dh is working that day and I'd have to arrange childcare as I couldn't take them with me.
It would take me over 3 hours to get there and I may get asked to leave after only the first part.
I also have no business wear that they've asked for and my hair needs a cut and I don't wear makeup.
But what if I get through to the next bit? What if I actually get selected to go on the show? I wouldn't need to win, just being on the show would give me enough publicity to get my business going. And wouldn't I always think 'what if' if I didn't go?
I'm almost 40 and have only had one 'proper job' and that wasn't in business. I have Aspergers and don't always do well socially, but I feel that I've learnt to play the part well enough to get through this. I've got great leadership skills due to volunteering with a youth organisation for over twenty years.
Should I just try the first audition and see how I get on? There'd be two more half day auditions after the first one, then a commitment for up to nine weeks.

Of course you should go! Why even doubt it??!!

Singlikemiranda · 03/02/2018 19:05

Go for it!

BigApple11 · 03/02/2018 19:06

Go for it!!!

helpfulperson · 03/02/2018 19:07

Go for it. You will forever think what if? if you don't. Can you borrow some business wear off someone, buy some in a charity shop etc. If not just go with the smartest thing you own.

You can't be worse than some of the people who have made it on to telly.

CondimentQueen · 03/02/2018 19:07

Definitely do it. You only regret the things you don't do!

ScreamingValenta · 03/02/2018 19:07

Definitely go for it. Though don't show them too many of your qualities such as common sense, honesty, pragmatism - or you might not get picked Grin.

Madonnasmum · 03/02/2018 19:09

If you do, dont forget to put outrageous statements and lies on your CV so you sit and squirm in your interview for our entertainment!
Go for it though!

BeesAndChiscuits · 03/02/2018 19:09

They don’t want people with common sense though. People with massive egos and big blind spots in self-awareness make the show more entertaining. They’re not looking for the most talented business people at the audition stage, they’re looking for “who will give us the biggest viewing figures” Sad

So I wouldn’t go on it.

Buxtonstill · 03/02/2018 19:10

If you are finding childcare difficult for a day, please think carefully if you do that for 9 weeks 24/7. Do you you have parents family they could stay with for a couple of months?
Good luck to you!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 03/02/2018 19:10

So long as you're prepared not to be shown in your best light, then yes!

LoopyLou1981 · 03/02/2018 19:11

I say go for it! You only live once.
Although you sound like you might actually have a clue about what you’re doing which isn’t necessarily what they seem to look for!x

Bluelady · 03/02/2018 19:12

Personally I'd rather drink bleach than take part in car crash reality TV, especially anything involving Alan Sugar and Karen Brady who I think are vile with a capital V. I think the people who do this would have to be uncommonly resilient.

No harm in going for the audition. I imagine it would be quite an entertaining experience.

Raffles1981 · 03/02/2018 19:12

Think of all the past candidates who probably needed a haircut/childcare etc. You will always wonder what if. Even if you are sent home, at least you gave it a shot. And good luck!!

UAEMum · 03/02/2018 19:14

Good luck! Please come back and tell ua how you got on x

NeverTwerkNaked · 03/02/2018 19:21

Does it really actually boost your business though? Most of them come across as ghastly.
Also expect if you are normal and sensible you are unlikely to make it through all the audition stages. Normal sensible people don’t make good tv.

ForalltheSaints · 03/02/2018 19:25

I think it is a show that has run its course. So I would think twice before going on it.

FourEyesGood · 03/02/2018 19:26

If you’re not an unbearable twat, you don’t stand a chance on The Apprentice.

gamerwidow · 03/02/2018 19:28

It’s an entertainment show not a business show. Unless your business is being a minor celebrity and a laughing stock I wouldn’t bother.

inkandstone · 03/02/2018 19:28

Good luck! Love The Apprentice.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 03/02/2018 19:29

Tbh I don’t think your business will get a boost unless you get to the final, Ive never heard the company names of any of the earlier candidates. However in life we regret the things we didn’t do!

DingDongDenny · 03/02/2018 19:29

I love the Apprentice and wish they had more real people on it. All the women are glamerous and beautiful, or else 'characters' and a bit bonkers. It would be great if they could showcase some real talent

So I wish you luck if you go, but unfortunately I imagine the selection process is more based on eye candy and entertainment

dingdongdigeridoo · 03/02/2018 19:30

I’m not sure ex apprentice contestants get taken very seriously as business people.

I’d be worried about appearing on reality TV because they can literally use the footage to turn you into whatever they want. Look flustered once? They can make you look like an incompetent moron. Rolled your eyes at someone? You’re now the queen bitch and everyone will take to twitter to complain about how awful you are. The judgement via social media would be awful.

britbat23 · 03/02/2018 21:13

You probably won't win.

The editing will probably make you look like a twat.

I wouldn't.

Thatsnotmybody · 03/02/2018 21:17

They purposely choose people for the entertainment value, either arrogant arses or joke candidates to be laughed at. I wouldn't.

Whoopsiveovershared · 03/02/2018 21:20

If you did get on, would your business tick along without you for a couple of months? I guess it would be difficult to continue your work whilst filming.
