Weekend away

I've been invited to go to London for a weekend with some friends which is lovely and I'm really looking forward to it. These are people I used to work with and we've known each other a good few years and get on well but aren't extremely close iyswim

The only issue is that I'm really worried about the idea of sharing a room with someone. I know I snore loudly and I'm also really embarrassed by my IBS. Blush

My question is would IBU to ask to have my own room? I would do so with the understanding that I'd most likely have to pay more which I'm comfortable with. I just don't want to seem rude or inconvenience anyone else. Anyone been in this kind of situation before?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Yanbu, quite considerate actually. I hate sharing a room with someone who snores, you are doing them a favour

It depends on the numbers I think.... if it’s 4 in total - the others will either need a twin and a single/ or a triple room. So will either be squeezed in or 1 pay more for a single? Would they mind?

If even numbers and all paired up then you - you having a single room wouldn’t matter. Can you just ask what they had in mind, mention that you don’t mind paying extra for a single room and that you snore? Have a lovely time!

I’m in a similar situation to you in terms of health acciopizza- I had colitis and now I use the bathroom a LOT. I don’t think you’re being unreasonable at all to ask for a separate room, otherwise you’ll just be uncomfortable the whole time. Depending on the place, when I went away and shared a room with someone, I used the toilets in the main reception but obviously this isn’t always ideal or possible. Is it possible in your hotel? Otherwise, definitely just explain and ask for a single room.

For me personally it wasn’t necessarily smell, it was frequency, length of time there and noises made!

YANBU. I always have my own room whenever I go away with friends. I just say I like my own space (which is the truth). I'm quite introverted and after a whole day with people I much prefer to be on my own for bed and for a bit the next morning.

As long as you're paying for it, who cares?

AccioPizza · 03/02/2018 13:24

Sorry, I forgot to mention, there will be four of us going in total - I don't think they'd mind sharing a triple if available but if not, one friend would have to get a single which I'm pretty sure she would not want to pay extra for (which I completely understand).

Just be (half) honest and say that you snore very loudly.

I’m sure they’d much prefer to make other arrangements knowing that’s why you want your own room.

babyccinoo · 03/02/2018 13:58

As long as you're clear from the outset, YANBU at all.

DakotaWest · 03/02/2018 13:58

YANBU

The only people I would share a room with are my husband and kids, at a push I could with one of my sisters. I would not like to share a room with a friend, so I always tell them I prefer a single room. It's never been an issue. I even ended up the only one to have a single room on work training weekends, I was quite surprised that all the other employees were happy to share.

You request wouldn't bother me at all.
