I’ve just seen an advert for it on Facebook and think it could be an option for me.

Tampons are a pain for me as we have a septic tank so I can’t flush them at home. Also not keen on pads.

Anyone got any experience? Heard they can be tricky to get out but maybe just take a bit of getting used to..

bees was it comfortable when it was in? It shouldn’t sit as high in the vagina as a tampon and if I ever put mine in too high I can feel it as it’s uncomfortable

AwesomeMixTapeVol1 · 03/02/2018 09:21

The Meluna cups come with different "stalks" - I have a ring ending on mine that I can use to help pull it out. That sounds a bit weird, I'll see if I can post a pic.

Scoleah · 03/02/2018 09:23

I saw on post for Organicup on one of the Christmas threads!
They had a BOGOF offer which I took advantage of, but they didn't arrive but their CS was amazing & she gave me a full refund and sent me out more in the post! (Which was very handy as I dropped one down the bog after one of the first times I tried to remove it failed and it fell in and disappeared into the u bend!Blush)
They come in a Little drawstring cotton bag too which was a nice touch..
I was nervous about trying but I seemed to have found the right one for me on the first go! And I don't think I'd go back to normal sanitary products now, didn't have any leaks & so easy to keep clean!
I'm not 100% on the removal part of it yet mind you! I saw a video that said to bear down like your having a Poo and pull on the stem at the same time to break the seal.. then it makes a big suctiony noise before it comes out! It came out though, so I'll probably stick to removing it that way!

Like this.
The feminewear site is good for different cup options.

Sevendown · 03/02/2018 09:28

They are a revelation!

ClemHFandango · 03/02/2018 09:31

I love them. I’ve got the Meluna one with the little ring to make it easier to come out. I used to have a Mooncup but because it was clear it looked super gross after a while, despite boiling it and using Milton tablets. I got a black one and it’s brilliant.

I was looking at the Tulip Cup because it has a valve stem so you don’t even have to take it out to empty it. I had an IUD put in last year though, so I don’t get periods heavy enough to need one any more.

PhoebefromFriends · 03/02/2018 09:32

Mooncup revolutionised my period, they have awesome customer service who I contacted in the beginning as I was struggling, once I cut the stem I was away. I use my pelvic floor to help push it out, haven't had kids but you push like having a poo. I leave mine in overnight and it's only leaked once when I was on a long drive and forgot to empty it. Seriously its the best thing ever if it works for you, my friend just couldn't get it to work for her which was a real shame.

ClemHFandango · 03/02/2018 09:33

Also, I funded a Kickstarter for a mentrual cup with Bluetooth that does a little haptic tap when you need to empty it and records your flow, but that was like 2 years ago and they still haven’t finished making it. Would be super cool though.

DailyMailareDicks · 03/02/2018 09:34

I got a mooncup to help cope with very heavy periods. I haven't tried any other brand but am happy with it. I also get spotting for 3-4 days before and after, so I've switched to washable pads too. I love them and never fear someone might catch a glimpse of them in my handbag (which I know is silly, but at work I dont want men to think I'm being hormonal if I disagree with them).

TheCrossKeys · 03/02/2018 09:50

I've bought one but my period isn't due for another two weeks. Do you have to be on your period to use it? Sorry, I know that's a weird question! I was going to try putting it in/out ahead of time so that I'm not totally clueless when AF does arrive.

bbcessex · 03/02/2018 10:00

I use 'DivaCup' - size 2.

Used for about 2 years. DD started using the small one aged 12.

Properly amazing.. esp now I'm almost 50 and periods have taken on a new force 😱😱😱

Can go into the loo at work without taking handbag.. / put it in just in case / empty & replace when out and about.

Completely amazing - try it 👍

bbcessex · 03/02/2018 10:01

crosskeys try it any time.. I often use for work if I'm due on but now sure (periods have become random so very useful)

Hastalapasta · 03/02/2018 10:05

Another fan of the Diva cup, one pink and one purple! Very soft and easy to use. I used to use the Keeper, not so flexible though.
Yes to changing in the shower, and folding into quarters. No problem with the sceptic tank. Can even compost the blood if you are so minded!

BarrysnotLyons · 03/02/2018 10:12

Omg composting bloodShock

keepingbees · 03/02/2018 10:39

BakedBeans47 it sometimes was and sometimes wasn't. If I put it really really low like the instructions said, it hurt even with most the stalk cut off, I couldn't sit down and it felt like it was pinching me. If I pushed it up slightly higher it was more comfortable. Never pushed it as high as a tampon but it seemed to work its way up that high and then I couldn't reach it to get it out

CoraPirbright · 03/02/2018 11:05

I have a Diva cup. Tried the Mooncup and found it leaked like mad. I dont reallly understand why the diva doesnt - there doesn’t seem to be much to choose between then to the untrained eye! I feel very pleased (with myself!!) that I am having less environmental impact.

bridgetreilly · 03/02/2018 11:07

Crosskeys, you can try any time, but my experience was that when I tried it before my period I couldn't insert it comfortably. So don't panic if that doesn't work and do try again once you have your period.

I prefer the push-down fold to the quarter fold, personally. There are lots of ways to try, though: www.menstrualcupsaustraliaonline.com.au/menstrual-cup-folds/
