CF cleaner

We have a cleaner that comes every week for 3 hours. She's always late and will never let you know that she's running behind. (We are her first job for the day). I'm always having to chase her up and have told her on several occasions to be on time as we have plans for the day and her being late delays us and if we cut the hours short, the work isn't done and end up finishing the job myself. Her cleaning standards have also gone down and isn't as good as it was.

Today, she hadn't turned up and when I called her she told me she was sorry she had to go to the office and would be with me an hour and half later. Had I known this, I could have taken DC's to a class and be back by the time she came.

When she did arrive, she had a relative in tow who had just come from abroad to stay here for a couple years to work as a cleaner. She said she would 'help' with he cleaning and would only do two hours as she had help. I told her she hadn't passed this by me beforehand and therefore I could not pay her. Not to mention she hasn't a work permit.

She left after 2 hours and my DH accidentally paid her for 3 hours instead of 2. The cleaner didn't say anything and took the money and off she went.

She was obviously expecting to be paid for 3 hours even though she had only worked 2 hours.

Before leaving she had asked my DH if it were ok if her relative could do our cleaning on some weeks instead of her.

Would IBU to not pay her the extra hour the next time she comes?

AIBU to expect her to give me notice that she is late and that she would be bringing someone else along with her to help with the work and expect payment?

Just get a new cleaner, she's too much like hard work.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 02/02/2018 12:57

You need a new cleaner

Twooter · 02/02/2018 12:57

Yanbu. Get a new cleaner.

SillyMoomin · 02/02/2018 12:57

I don't know why you're continuing with her full stop??????

Let her go and find a cleaner who turns up on time, is reliable and doesn't bring their relatives with them

Hmm
macnab · 02/02/2018 12:59

^all of this^ - and quick!

DeliberatelyAwkward · 02/02/2018 13:02

Another "new cleaner" vote.

Mousewatch · 02/02/2018 13:02

Get rid, you obviously don't trust her if you feel the need to be in the house when she's there.

Bluelady · 02/02/2018 13:03

Sack her. Plenty more out there.

babyccinoo · 02/02/2018 13:03

Ditch her! She sounds awful! And get the extra hour's money off her.

SwanVests · 02/02/2018 13:03

Get rid of cleaner. Why do you need to be there when she arrives? Can’t she let herself in?

littlecabbage · 02/02/2018 13:04

Surely you can find a more reliable and honest one?

Fruitcocktail6 · 02/02/2018 13:04

While I think you should get a new cleaner, I don't understand why it delays your plans so much? DP and I are both at work when our cleaner comes, she lets herself in and out

sidesplittinglol · 02/02/2018 13:06

Glad to see I'm not being U.
I definitely will get another cleaner - don't actually know why I've stuck with her for this long tbh.

I just prefer to not have someone else have a set of my keys. I would have been more annoyed to come back and find someone I don't know in my house.

OP posts:
babyccinoo · 02/02/2018 13:07

I wouldn't trust someone so unreliable (and now asking if a random can clean the house instead) in my house alone.

Kintan · 02/02/2018 13:08

I’ve noticed on most of these CF threads that the OPs are usually complete pushovers who have been tolerating bad behaviour for longer than most other people would!

WineIsTheAnswer · 02/02/2018 13:09

I would email/text her or I would guess she will start sending relative and ignoring you as shes already asked DH after you making it clear you didnt want relative to be cleaning.

" Hi, just thought I would clarify what we spoke about this morning. Our arrangement is that you to clean for 3 hours weekly between, X and Y times. Any changes need to be discussed in advance. We have also inadvertently paid an hour extra today that will need to come off next week's bill."

Any unexpected changes after this and I would be giving her notice.

Myddognearlyatethedeliveryman · 02/02/2018 13:12

Cleaner here - no way would I assume it OK to bring a stranger into a customer's home! I have keys for all my jobs and an average time of arrival (leeway for school drop offs /traffic), work the hours pre arranged and have never not turned up without notice. Maybe had 2 sick days in 6 years tbh!!
You need someone who makes your life less stressful not more!

Bluelady · 02/02/2018 13:13

You're very generous, Wine. She'd be on her bike with the extra hour's money as a leaving present if it were me.

PoohBearsHole · 02/02/2018 13:15

If it helps OP I got rid of my cleaner as she gave me the evil eye that I was sitting breastfeeding a three week old baby instead of her. That and the fact she called me lazy for the above reason.....

And she was through an agency and costing me a fortune!

I'm reading this to mean that the cleaner wanted to be breastfed by you ConfusedGrin

StringandGlitter · 02/02/2018 13:25

PoohBearsHole

Your cleaner wanted you to breastfeed her?

🤪

twilightcafe · 02/02/2018 13:25

And change your locks if you let this cleaner go.

EggsonHeads · 02/02/2018 13:26

You really need to find someone else.

SleepFreeZone · 02/02/2018 13:26

I think it’s pretty obvious what’s happened. She’s got busy, is enjoying the money and is starting to become unreliable and sloppy. It’s what happens with all jobs really which is why many companies link pay to performance and have regular appraisals etc.

Just find a new cleaner. It will be a hell of a lot easier for you.
