To take the day off sick for period pain?

tiredpom · 31/01/2018 23:11

Just that really, terrible period pain, running down my legs and back. Can't stand up straight and being sick from the pain. (Painkillers not touching it) Is it wrong to take the day off sick? Can't face pulling myself together and facing the boys in the office like this .....

How many days off have you had in the past 12 months? Take a day off! If you don’t feel great then you don’t feel great

Gide · 31/01/2018 23:13

Honestly, I’ve done it, sat in a bath with a scorching hot water bottle, so fucking awful. Take the day, but remember gentle exercise genuinely helps. Even doubled over walking round the house helped me.

I’ve now got the Mirena, it hasn’t solved it 100% but it’s a whole lot better.

MarthaArthur · 31/01/2018 23:14

You are in horrible pain of course have a day off. Just because its period related doesnt mean you have to grin and bare it. :(

Waitinforaflamin · 31/01/2018 23:16

You are in pain. Nothing wrong with taking a day off regardless of whether it’s period pain or not. Take the day off.

6catsandcounting · 31/01/2018 23:16

A man would take the week off

AnneLovesGilbert · 31/01/2018 23:18

Of course you take the day off! I bet the boys at work would. If men had periods science would have eradicated them somehow.

You poor thing. Hope you feel better in the morning. And get back to the doctor. Tranexamic acid makes them less heavy. Mefanamic acid can help loads with the pain. Despite the latter I spent most of Saturday night groaning and pacing the floor but god knows how much worse it would have been without it.

Idontdowindows · 31/01/2018 23:18

Take a day off. Pain is pain, no matter what the cause. Ill is ill.

Women are so often expected just to suck up period pain and power through it, but if it was your leg or arm, they wouldn't expect it.

Hot bath, hot bottle, comfy sofa, hot tea.

PleaseDontGoadTheToad · 31/01/2018 23:18

If you're not well enough to work then you're not well enough to work. So take the day off.

Merryoldgoat · 31/01/2018 23:19

Being sick from the pain? Of course you should but you should also get looked at - do you have a diagnosed condition that causes such misery?

You poor thing Sad

MarthaArthur · 31/01/2018 23:19

That aside op do you think you have endo? I have suspected endo and on my period i get horrendous pain running down the back of my legs and bottom. Maybe worth a thought if this is a regular occurance x

Merryoldgoat · 31/01/2018 23:20

And get some proper painkillers too - I favour codeine but Naproxen has also been really helpful in the past.

KittyHugs · 31/01/2018 23:34

I used to have to take the day off at the start of my period - the cramps and the pain were horrendous. Each month I would go to the pharmacy to get painkillers after some time the pharmacist suggested I see my gp and ask for mefenamic acid and while it didnt take all the pain away it certainly helped

Italiangreyhound · 31/01/2018 23:37

Take the day off. Tell office you are ill. Nothing else to say.

YellowLily · 31/01/2018 23:40

Yep my sister has just been diagnosed with endo after a long road... she is often sick with period pain, most over the counter painkillers do not touch her pain either. If you’re being sick with pain of course you should stay off but also think you should discuss with the GP. My sister just took it as normal for so long and it wasn’t until she saw a gynaecologist and they told her it wasn’t that she got actual proper treatment Sad

lilabet2 · 31/01/2018 23:43

Definitely, especially as you are actually throwing up and the pain isn't relieved with tablets!

You are actually ill with this even if you're not contagious.

Also how would you be able to work if you're doubled over in pain?

FiveLittlePigs · 31/01/2018 23:45

Tranexamic acid. Reduces the bleeding and a lot of the pain. Call in sick and look after yourself.

tiredpom · 01/02/2018 00:45

I've had lots of fertility related investigations, but never suggested endo. I went in, basically walked into the office - dumped my bags down. Then ran (shuffled) to the loo and was sick. Decided then and there to pack myself off sick ..... took an Uber home. Now in bed, hot water bottle loaded up on pain relief..... why did this have to happen on the first day of the codine ban.

RonaldMcDonald · 01/02/2018 00:49

Do it

Littlebitshort · 01/02/2018 13:00

Codine ban??

Jamiefraserskilt · 01/02/2018 13:11
