...to leave a job I wasn’t prepared for...?

Good evening!

So I started a new job about a week ago in the care sector which I seriously thought I was going to love. I fully researched it and had some experience in the sector and thought it would and could be a good fit.

Unfortunately me and the job do not mesh well together. I really wasn’t prepared for the level of stress I would experience, how doing personal care again would really make me feel and how I would get on working in a small, nice but ever so slightly bitchy team that I would find hard to relate to in any way.

Sadly I know that I am not going to change my mind, I am not happy, the job is not for me, and most importantly the people we support really shouldn’t have someone there who doesn’t want to be there.

How would you word a letter, email or call in this instance, please? I’ve never left a job in the UK, and don’t really know the correct, accepted etiquette.

Also, I would not be leaving with nothing to go to. I co-own a very small cleaning company and can continue with that for a bit.

Please be kind; I obviously feel like a complete knob leaving this job but there you go.

Thank you.

Dear Employer,

I would like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to work at * (place) as a member of your team.

Unfortunately, due to a change in personal circumstances, I am unable to continue in this role and I am writing this letter to give you notice that I will be leaving on .

With many thanks for the support you and other staff members have given me over the last * weeks/months.

Yours faithfully
X
