Any teachers, school employees involved in funding, parents that have a child not in school because of MH issues or knowledgeable folk that can help me write an email to the school?

I have to write an email tomorrow asking my DD14’s school to fund my dd attending an online school with mentor support set up for severely bullied children. It’s a charity and very small but based in my local city.

She isn’t statemented and is on the long camhs waiting list.
The GP is aware of her MH problems.

I want them to fund one term from April to July so my dd can get the support she needs.
She has severe anxiety caused by bullying in Year 8.
The school have been very supportive but I pulled my dd out last week to give her a break from the relentless anxiety she has every morning.
I know the school (an academy) is in deficit but she is still on their role.
The online school have said they will accept her but it’s expensive. 2.5K per term.

How can I word the email so that they fund it so she can get back into school to start her gcse’s In September?

I really need advice so I get this right.

There is a place available in the online school in April.
She would be visited by a mentor every weeks at home.
The physical school in Cambridge has a waiting list of a year.

In our county, if a community paed or consultant declares a child unfit for school, there is an LA team that will provide education, either in a small unit or via home tutoring. The school where the child is on roll is required to pay for that tutoring.

Whatever your do, don't take her off roll. The LA is responsible for making sure your child has access to an appropriate education once she has been too ill to attend school for 15 days. Once they have agreed for your area's team to become involved, you can negotiate with them regarding Red Balloon.

Is that 15 consecutive days or 3 school weeks ?

Is it your intention for her to return to school in September, since you mentioned that you hope for funding from April to July?

ihatethecold · 31/01/2018 22:37

Yes. Ideally, she really wants to get back to school but knows she needs to be better first.

"Is that 15 consecutive days or 3 school weeks ?"

It's 15 days in a year, not necessarily consecutive. The LA should not wait until the 15 days have already passed; they are under a duty to start making arrangements to ensure she receives a suitable full-time education (if her health allows for full-time) once it becomes apparent that she will miss 15 days due to ill health.

Assuming that it's obvious your dd is going to miss 15 days in total, or that she has already missed 15 days, the school should already have informed the LA, and you should have been given the name of the person at the LA who is responsible for making arrangements for her.

That’s really interesting Saracen. She will definitely have reached 15 days.

Thanks Noeuf. I have been PM’d it and have it open on my phone. I’ve skimmed it and will read it fully on my laptop later.

Blackeye.
How can they be ignoring it. It’s just ridiculous!
Can’t people do their job anymore?
