To feel totally ground down by my painful feet!

Scabbersley · 31/01/2018 19:00

I have plantar fasciitis. It's really bad. I've had steroid injections which worked for a year. I've spent almost a grand on physio and insoles. Now the ligaments are tearing everytime I go on tiptoes, eg to reach something high.

The pain is constant. I have really supportive trainers that I wear everywhere and nothing helps.

The constant pain makes me a) so tired b) frown so I look 107 years old c) sometimes tearful.

The only thing that gave me relief was naproxen but the doc today said no and gave me some more fucking useless exercises.

I feel like an old old woman. I'm only 51! It's sapping all the joy out of life and it's not even something that sounds that bad!

I have nothing to suggest, but have a hand for you to hold. I don't think i have plantar fasciatas, but I have a really duff ankle that is excruciatingly painful and swells hideous. I have gone to bed with an ice pack for the last 18 months or so and have been waiting for the results of an MRI scan since May last year. My GP should has written to ask what's going on. My job involves being on my feet all day and now I have developed a sore hip partly from standing with all my weight on it. I feel like I am as old as Methuselah and sometimes walk like I am 100. Growing older is shit.

MovinOn · 31/01/2018 19:09

31 here and feeling the same at the moment.

For a few years its been on and off.... would last maybe a week and then go back to being ok....but about a year ago it started up again and has been daily since.

I bought new more supportive shoes, but eventually after trying everything I could I went to the gp. She said plantar fasciitis and gave me exercises (which make the pain worse)and made an appointment to see a podiatrist (or similar) which I am still waiting for the appointment since october. (aparently there is a 9 month waiting list)

I cant afford to go private.... so thats not really an option.

I dont drive so walk everywhere.... I have to walk kids to school, walk to work, work is mainly standing and walk back home, minimum of 5 miles a day. I lay in bed in the morning and I can feel it before I even get up, its got to where I don't want to get up because I know it's going to hurt. I am almost in tears at times with it.

I wish I'd gone to the gp as soon as they started hurting and I may have seen someone by now.... instead of trying to wait it out and manage :(

sorry no advice....

Oh. You are definitely not being unreasonable on this one. When mine was at its worst I was hobbling around my own house. It's absolutely miserable being unable to move without pain.

Are you putting ice on it regularly?

UrsulaPandress · 31/01/2018 19:13

I have shit arthritis in one ankle. Had an OP which mad it worse and it is agony all the time. It keeps me awake at night. I cannot walk when I first stand up, or get out of the car. The only comfy footwear is my wellies, once I have got them on. But taking them off is also agony.

No advice. Just wanted you to know you are not alone.

IMightMentionGriddlebone · 31/01/2018 19:15

MovinOn

Get a bike. Lean on the bike while you're walking the children to school, which will take weight off your feet, then cycle the rest of the way to work. Way home, same in reverse.

Cycling doesn't aggravate PF and you need some respite.

mimibunz · 31/01/2018 19:15

Can you have another steroid injection? It’s horribly painful, have had myself a couple of times.

Welshmaenad · 31/01/2018 19:16

You can buy Naproxen OTC. It's Feminax Extra or Plus or something - marketed for period pains anyway.

43percentburnt · 31/01/2018 19:16

I had PF and was hobbling around. I bought a pair of Adidas trainers (horrible looking things) because the pain was so bad. I wore them as slippers for a week or two then outside - totally cured! I wear them most of the time out of work, but am reintroducing other sensible footwear. All my flats were binned.

When you look at the sole of the trainer there is a indent where the painful bit is on my foot. The rest of the sole is normal trainer sole. The indent where my painful bit is, That is what attracted me to them. The trainers are breathable non waterproof (?) fabric things. I love them so much yet hate the way they look!

Prior to my trainers The pain was excrutiating.

PetraDelphiki · 31/01/2018 19:17

Oh god I hear you! Have something up with ball of foot (might be Morton’s neuroma...) getting out of bed hurts. Combine with hip pain on opposite side and I just want to cry :-(

OrangeCarpet · 31/01/2018 19:17

Mine is bad of and on. Consider seeing trying this. Has anybody tried it?

You poor thing, my dad has this and I bought him some shoes made by kuru from USA. He says they have made it bearable and has noticed a big improvement.

Hoppinggreen · 31/01/2018 19:19

Don’t think you can get Naproxen otc any more. It was Feminax but it’s been withdrawn. I tried to get some for DH’s gout and 2 pharmacies said the same

trumptown · 31/01/2018 19:23

OP I had it a few years ago. Physio did nothing for me either. The only thing that helped in the end was paying for a private consultation at a foot clinic. They made me custom orthotics which helped straightaway because the inflammation and pain disappeared once I had my feet in the right position. Then I did other things - foam rolling (calves get very tight and make it worse - you can google foam rolling for PF for vids on youtube), and using a trigger point ball to massage my feel (put ball on floor and roll foot back and forth over it). Using orthotics doesn't remove the root cause but it did allow my pain and inflammation to settle down enough that eventually I was pain free. I don't use them at all now. I hope you can get some relief soon.

MovinOn · 31/01/2018 19:23

43percentburnt do you have a link to the trainers??

picklemepopcorn · 31/01/2018 19:24

I found putting my feet straight into supportive shoes as I got out of bed made the most difference. Mine were snug fitting court shoes with a good impact absorbing wedge. When mine starts to flare up, I put the shoes next to the bed and that sorts it.

It is awful, I do sympathise.

They are not these ones but look at the bottoms! Very similar. Eco orthopaedic cloud form. I promise I don’t work for Adidas! They were about 25/30 from m and m or sports direct. I looked in the running section.

43percentburnt · 31/01/2018 19:25

I will keep looking for the actual beauties!

endofthelinefinally · 31/01/2018 19:29

Are you rolling your feet on frozen water bottles?
I can only wear hotter boots and crocs sandals.
Have you tried ultrasound treatment? Ask an osteopath.
I had ultrasound treatment for a similar condition and it worked so well I have bought my own little machine.

Here is a boys version but exactly the same. Very stylish you will see!

Previously I had had ortho fittings in my shoes but still got pain, which I had had for several years. Totally cured now thankfully.

mel3714 · 31/01/2018 19:35

I could have written your post 2 years ago. I had been suffering with Plantar fasciitus for 3 years, where I was crying with the pain just waking around my house. It was truly awful. I had been wearing awful, flat, comfortable shoes with special insoles for the whole time and nothing made a difference.

It was then my sister in law's hen do and I bought some boots with a 2 inch block heel, I thought that they'd be agony but I was in agony anyway so I thought I may as well look better for the weekend.

After walking for ages to find the hotel once we'd got off the train I began wondering why my feet weren't as painful as usual. The lessened pain continued for the whole weekend, I felt like it was a miracle! When I next went to physio the lady said I should be careful because by wearing a heel I was relieving the pressure on the tendon running from my heel under my foot, but that it might start becoming painful again. I ignored her because it felt too good to stop. My feet still got sore but nothing like they were and they continued to improve until I didn't even notice them anymore. I still have to be careful what type of shoes I buy and couldn't wear flat pumps all day but I work in a school and wear low heeled boots all day pain free.

picklemepopcorn · 31/01/2018 19:39

For me it's about the impact absorption. I have to wear squidgy soles. All the time.

43percentburnt · 31/01/2018 19:39

My work shoes are a pair of Clark’s shoes with a low block heel 1.5 inches maybe. I wear those for 40/50 hours a week. However the pain didn’t go until I got the trainers. I would feel pain in the work shoes. Since wearing the trainers the work shoes don’t cause any pain either.

Teaformeplease · 31/01/2018 19:40

I've had plantar fasciitis but not as bad as yours. I've found wearing Sketchers go walk 4 shoes helped as they have loads of cushioning and feel soft underfoot. Wearing supports designed for pf at night has been good too. I've got some neoprene ones but you can also get the stiff boots to wear at night. Oh and a foot roller thing too.
Sympathies because it's so painful. Flowers

SauvignonBlanche · 31/01/2018 19:42

I found the Foot angel night supports I got off Amazon to be very helpful.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 31/01/2018 19:42

Read up the NICE guidelines and get your naproxen back . That’s a bloody disgrace

Have they offered any other ‘alternative’ options such a weight loss , cutting certain foods ? Always worth a try Flowers
