Aibu? Pokemon trades!

For Xmas I bought ds (10) a pack of Pokemon figures that cost £40.
They weren't cheap but we had the money and thought he'd love them so thought fuck it.

Today he has come home telling me he has traded some of them for cards. When I say some I mean 13 out of 16 and when I say cards I mean 5 .

I am absolutely fuming.
A) because of the cost. We are not well off but save to be able to treat for Xmas and birthdays.
B) the principle of trading a Xmas present for five fucking cards.

He's had a bollocking, all technology banned until his room is tidy (it's a shit tip) and told he needs to pay back the money that they cost.

Aibu?
I feel like I am a little bit but at the same time I don't Hmm

Little so and so...what does he intend to do about it?

My Pokemon loving DD asks if the cards were rare or of legendary Pokemon? If so, that might explain it - they are hard to get hold of. Otherwise she thinks he's a bit of an idiot but asks you not to be too hard on him Grin

Does he already collect/trade the cards or is he just left with a few cards? Does he know which cards are useful or valuable or do you feel like he’s been taken for a ride?

LemonScentedStickyBat · 31/01/2018 18:28

Certain cards can be worth upwards of £10 so it may not be such a bad deal

His present, his to choose what to do with. It's a trading card game. Some are "worth" more than others due to their power in the game.

It might be worth trying to find where they've gone - was the trading at school? Lots of schools have banned Pokemon etc. for this reason - as valuable / expensive items get "swapped" for those of less value.

If he knows who has them now could you contact parents? I'd want to know if my offspring had done this and would happily return them to original owner.

Firstly, while it's disappointing for you if he wasn't as thrilled with your present as you hoped, especially as you put all that thought into it, it's still his present to do as he wishes with.

Secondly, trading cards have a "worth" that seems quite ridiculous. The majority are only so much cardboard, but there a re a few rare ones which change hands for a lot. So it may not be as bad a trade as it looks.
