So, I’m currently working for a small company in my city. I work part time, 24 hours a week, and work the night shift. I like my job overall, and get on with 90% of my coworkers. The money is ok, but not what I’d want it to be ideally. There’s no progression available at all in this company, so I know that what I’m doing now is what I’ll always be doing, and there’s no chance of a pay rise.
Now, someone I used to work with in another job has been in touch, and told me that the company he works for is currently hiring, and he thought of me straight away. The company is huge, the hours would be full time, but the salary is a lot more than what I’d get at my current job even if I worked full time. Lots of opportunities to progress there, and according to former colleague it’s a great place to work, everyone is lovely etc. My former colleagues manager is also a former colleague of mine, and apparently he’s quite keen to get me in.
I’m just really worried about going for this job and possibly regretting it. What if the staff there don’t like me, or I don’t like them? What if the job is awful? At the minute my job is very comfortable, it’s an easy, laid back job and I know it’s secure. However the idea of a much higher salary and possible job progression is very appealing. I’m very 50/50 on this, and I’d just like some advice on what to do? Has anyone been in this position before? I know no one can make this decision for me, but I really don’t know what would be best.

Go for the job. See if you get it. If you don't, no decision. If you do, then decide. However I see no reason whatsoever to stay in your current job except fear of the unknown, which is a terrible reason to stay put and stagnate in your career.

Thanks Ouch! Yeah you’re right, it’s definitely fear of the unknown, I don’t like change and this is terrifying for me!
