yeah that is weird! I clean my loo every day but the tea towels I just clean when they seem to be dirty, unless theyve been on the floor for some reason in which case ill put them straight in washing.

And who seriously washes their shower curtain every two days??

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 31/01/2018 00:32

I do most of those things, except the remote, cushions and carpets (don't really have many of either), don't have a shower curtain, and I don't use a dishcloth.

We probably clean the main kitchen sink and loos more often than every 5 days! 5 days is a long time in a big family...

ferrier · 31/01/2018 00:42

Who's got the time to do all that? Hmm
And how many people have actually got ill because it hasn't been done?

Want2bSupermum · 31/01/2018 00:46

Tea towel is changed twice a day at weekends and once a day during the week. It gets manky because my DH uses it to wipe the counter. Short of threatening him with a vasectomy with a paring knife this bad habit won't change.

My very first LTB !

MrsDilber · 31/01/2018 01:03

I'm a bugger for using tea towels once and throwing them in the wash. Something ingrained in him in a Home Economics class in the 80's. Don't do the remote often and I certainly don't clean the fridge out every week.

theftbyfinding · 31/01/2018 01:05

I definitely wash tea towels daily, must use around four a day. Same with bath towels, used once and in the wash. Hand towels every other day. Sheets weekly.

On the other hand, have never cleaned the remote or washed the cushion covers. Slattern.

TooManyPaws · 31/01/2018 01:16

Bugger the bleach. I'm not killing off my septic tank. My poor Senga, she'd never recover!

Mummyoflittledragon · 31/01/2018 01:31

Don’t have the energy to do most of that. I do change my towels especially hand towels very regularly as I know the constant wet/drying causes nasty bacteria to build up. Perhaps we should just go back to spring cleaning and bashing our rugs on the washing line Wink.

RustyPaperclips · 31/01/2018 01:40

So tea towels every day but loo seat every five days and kitchen sink weekly?! I clearly need to rethink my cleaning regime Hmm

Chouetted · 31/01/2018 01:42

I'm more fascinated by the revelation that it only takes 7 and a half seconds to sing "Happy Birthday".

That seems amazingly fast.

Iwasjustabouttosaythat · 31/01/2018 01:56

I felt bad enough after reading some of the thread about household chores you absolutely cannot stand to leave undone. I don’t “have” to do any. I have no time! This sounds like a list for housewives - as in no kids in the house, no job to go to, a spoken agreement the house will be made lovely between gym and lunch.

Panandthegang · 31/01/2018 20:43

I feel like I need to burn my duvets, cushions and babies teddy bears!!

And cleaning the entire shower after every use??

pumpersnatch · 31/01/2018 20:47

I work full-time and have 3 kids. I clean the loo every morning. I wash tea towels everyday, change everyone's beds once a week, regularly wash cushion covers etc. My house is tidy, it's genuinely not that difficult. Do it everyday, put washing away immediately etc and it never builds up.

I don't get dirty houses?

saladdays66 · 31/01/2018 20:50

Well, if none of us have been doing all these things for years and we have survived, then they're obviously not all essential!!

I do wash tea towels every day and I like a clean loo. Can't remember the last time I washed my cushions/hoovered my bed (never)/cleaned out the fridge... never mind cleaned the shower curtain.

hannah1992 · 31/01/2018 21:05

I don’t have a shower curtain I have a glass screen. After the kids have had their bath/shower on a night I clean that and give the bath a quick wipe with detail wipes and the loo. After I go to the loo before I go to be I squirt some bleach down. We each have our own towels so we each use them twice then put them in the wash. I wash all my towels and bedding on 90 washes. I spend 2 solid hours on a Saturday morning (early) and change beds, hoover up downstairs. Do a wash. Sort out clean towels etc. I change the hand towel in the kitchen everyday but I don’t really use a tea towel.

I like to keep my home clean and tidy but we work Monday to Friday so nobody is there all week so it doesn’t get messy.

When I was at home with the kids it was a totally different story

hannah1992 · 31/01/2018 21:05

Dettol wipes not detail

Sohardtochooseausername · 31/01/2018 21:15

There will be an article next week about how it’s good to have a dirty house.

speakout · 31/01/2018 21:17

I do most of these things, except remote and shower curtain.
I use 2 or 3 tea towels and cotton cloths in the kitchen- they get washed daily.
We have a ceramic mug for toothbrushes- that goes in the dishwasher once a week- and often the toothbrushes too.

AnachronisticCorpse · 31/01/2018 21:20

Weird article. It’s definitely made me feel good about my own standards though. My house is pretty much always a mess but I use towels and tea towels once, clean the loos every day, clean Pjs for all every night.

Which is probably why I have an ever present washing mountain mucking up the place...

NotReadyToMove · 31/01/2018 21:22

THAT.
Most of the stuff is about things that are ‘bad if you have some allergies’ etc.. and some are just totally impractical. Dc has lots of soft toys who are clearky labelled as surface wash only. I’m not going to put them in the washing machine (or the dishwasher???) to remove dust mites that have never given dc any issues... (esp when the damage done to said soft toy WILL create a lot of issues)
