To sue my dentist

I went to a new (private) dentist because I had a space in between two teeth where food was getting stuck. He suggested to redo two fillings (otherwise non-problematic) to make them touch and resolve this. For some reason he dug quite deep into one of the teeth and the tooth became sensitive and painful. After redoing this filling twice failed to solve this problem the pain became worse and I had to have a root canal. This costed me around a 1000 pounds and I will also have to pay about the same amount for the crown. I also suffered from pain for about 3 months-the last week before the root canal was quite horrible really.
I am quite upset at what happened and am wondering if it’s reasonable to sue him to at least partially cover the cost of the treatment. I definitely suffered damage - I don’t understand enough about dentistry to decide if he carries responsibility for this sort of occurrence and how likely it is that I will win. Or should I just accept it and move on?
It’s hard to find a good dentist around here :/

Have you tried contacting him to discuss your treatment and perhaps complaining to him?

Agree with too long. Also, maybe go to another dentist for a second opinion on your treatment and see if they feel your original dentist has made a cock up.
