Carpark at work one

We have a tiny office car park with a waiting list. I'm not on it, but a number of people are. Someone in the office is going on a career break and travelling for a year. Found out they are reserving their car parking space for a year. They aren't paying the fee during this time. AIBU or is this totally unfair to those waiting?

Reserving it in that it lies empty for a year?

Or that someone else can use it but they will have to hand it back when colleague returns?

If the former then it is totally ridiculous.

Knittedfairies · 30/01/2018 17:42

That does seem unfair. Are they reserving it so it will still be theirs after they return to work?

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 30/01/2018 17:45

They aren't paying the fee but they are allowed to reserve it?

How does that work then?

Cantshedmymuffintop · 30/01/2018 17:56

I can't work it out either. Apparently they can't take the space away as technically they haven't left and there are staff who visit our office regularly who are taking away paid for spaces so they have decided to let them use them?

Too many 'they's and 'them's to be able to work out what's going on. Sorry.

Not paying = not entitled to it

TheSnowFairy · 30/01/2018 18:10

Well, if it's tiny you can see why the staff member wants to keep it. Are you good friends with them? If so, I'd be offering to 'babysit' the space for the year...

Cantshedmymuffintop · 30/01/2018 18:21

I don't drive, but this sticks of favouritism!
