To ask you which of these strollers I should get?

I probably am being U to ask here but I'm tired of looking and DH is no help!!

Baby is due in may when DS will be 22 months so thinking I'll need a double but just can not afford a bugaboo or oyster max double.
We still have our big travel system from ds which was hardly used so can use that when out with dh as can take the buggy or trike too but I think I'll need a double stroller for when I venture out alone? I can't see DS cooperating with a buggy board.

I have narrowed it down to these two and I'm stuck if anyone has had one of these I'd be very greatful if you could let me know pros and cons! Thankyou!

I could have written this post. I love the Hamilton Turnberry, but cannot view it in real life before I buy and would also love some reviews from people who have used it.

Bippitybopityboo · 30/01/2018 00:45

It's lovely looking isn't it but I'm the same in that I won't be able to view and I have read that some of their other strollers seem quite 'cheaply made' I wish I could make up my mind!

My friend bought the hudl for going on holiday and was really impressed with it. They were expecting a cheap buggy, but were very pleasantly surprised. I’ve not had a chance to see theirs yet, but think I’ll have a look at that first.

Birdshitbridgegotme · 30/01/2018 00:48

I had a joie (the one with reversible liners) it was very light, lovely big basket and fitted through doorways and around shops fine. And also is 120 quid in mothercare

Bippitybopityboo have you made a decision? I think I’m going with Joie.

TheEagle · 30/01/2018 21:29

Don’t go for the Cosatto, we had a secondhand one briefly for our twins.

The handles are quite widely spaced so it’s not comfortable to push and the wheels are very light. It’s a rattly old buggy.

We used the Out and About double - in the beginning we had toddler and one baby in buggy (and the other baby in the sling). It’s a fabulous buggy and really easy to transport.

Also I foind the Cosatto heavy and clunky.

TheEagle · 30/01/2018 21:29

Foind?! Found

My daughter and daughter in law have Cossato , they're really sturdy. I had a side by side double with my 3 and it was a nightmare , don't expect to be able to go shopping as it was too wide for most aisles, some doorways were too narrow and you can say goodbye to using public transport. We managed a lot better with a backpack and a single buggy

Hillbillyhotel · 30/01/2018 21:41

I have the Cosatto, twenty month age gap so similar to you. It’s back breaking! If there’s no dropped kerb I have to pull the whole pram backwards and use my knee for leverage to get the pram up. My youngest is just about to turn one now and I used it for the first time in ages yesterday, four and a half stone of children to push, with such a big difference in weight between the two was super tricky! I wouldn’t recommend it! On the plus side-it has managed to fit through every door we’ve needed to go through...bar ones with steps leading up to them,I don’t have the energy for that Hmm

cellinenicky · 03/02/2018 06:16

Maybe you want one with better ease of use and maneuverability, I guess the tutorials on double stroller will do you some help when making decision below. BTW I got the Chariot Cross one in the end cause I want a better quality and maneuverability.

As others have said don't go for Cosatto. I got a Phil and Ted's double 2nd hand for £50 and sold it on for the same. It was amazing. Would 100% recommend having a look for one!

Luckystar1 · 03/02/2018 06:47

I had a 20 month age gap and used the out n about nipper double. I used a carry cot for the baby. We still use it now at 1.5 and 3. It is a really brilliant workhorse of a pram, and super light. I got it second hand for £150. I would highly recommend it.

I’ve heard a lot of people say that the ‘lightweight’ stroller doubles with a newborn and a toddler are hard work due to the uneven weight distribution.

(Sorry not your original question I know!)

AnnaT45 · 03/02/2018 07:00

This probably isn't helpful but I got this for my 19 month old age gap. I had a double macalren I got second hand but I found it hard to steer. This has really great storage so
Could get a lot from supermarket! It folds down flat relatively easily and you can use a car seat with it as an option (I didn't bother)

I agree with Lucky Star. Out of the two I would go for the Hamilton Turnberry simply because the wheels make it look easier to manoeuvre plus it has a solid handle to you can push one handed (fast forward a few months and your older one wants to walk for a bit but can't manage a long walk and you need to hold their hand).
I would be more inclined to go for a second hand Mountain buggy/out and about nipper/baby jogger city mini. They look big but you don't have trouble getting around shops. Much, much easier to push than umbrella strollers and double strollers with piddly little wheels.
I had a double Maclaren and a proper double similar to a mountain buggy. After using 10 different prams, by far the best pram was my proper double. Big storage basket, could push it one handed even with (special needs) 4 and 5 year old in it, no problems with doors (but wouldn't go through front door but not did my Maclaren).

Jonsey79 · 03/02/2018 07:06

I had a similar age gap with my dc and I bought a double travel system (Uppababy) with a tandem arrangement. We were lucky to also be given a second hand side by side Maclaren.

Both were great in different ways and the Maclaren was no wider than the Uppababy.

Compared with the Cosatto side by side I borrowed on a 2 week holiday, the Maclaren won hands down. Similar looking but Maclarens are much sturdier, smoother to push, easier to fold, decent suspension - better in every way really.

If I were you I'd scour the selling pages on your local Facebook for a decent quality second hand. You probably won't need a double for that long so you might find a similarly lightly used one for a bargain.

With strollers you can remove and machine wash all the fabrics and then just jet wash the frame.

A quick search in my local area just now - I can see a double Maclaren and a Phil & Teds double for £50-£60.

DeathMetalMum · 03/02/2018 07:18

I'd second something a bit more than one of the strollers too. I'd say get a decent second hand double and treat it almost like a loan or should hold it's price and you should be able to sell it on again after you've finished with it for a similar pride. We had a Jane powertwin pro. It was was a bit of a tank size wise, but an ease to push. Particularly when on top of two children I seemed to carry all but the kitchen sink with me in the basket.

123namechanged · 03/02/2018 07:48

17 month gap between my two.. I don't drive so we had no choice but to walk everywhere.

I chose a baby city jogger mini and used it around 5 times.
Then got a cheap one in front of the other which was just the worst.

In the end, I just used a baby carrier for one of them and a stroller for the other! It was SO much easier. My favourite was my Connecta.

Also had a buggy board for when DS was happy to use it. But he was happy to walk places from an early age as that's all he had known.

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 03/02/2018 08:08

I had just under 2 years with my first and second. I liked the eldest walking as much as possible but a double did come in handy for the first 6 months as I don't drive and we walk a good distance most days. I got the my child sienta duo and absolutely loved it.

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 03/02/2018 08:09

There's 2 years 4 months with number 2 and 3 and I just got a buggy board this time. Based on my experiences I'd not spend a lot on a double as while they're handy when you need them they aren't needed long at all with a gap around the 2 year mark

Daffodils07 · 03/02/2018 08:15

I got a buggypod as my son loved walking from 18 months and at 2 was a really good walker but could still get tired.
Love the fact it goes on most single pushchairs and folds on the pushchair so easy to hold toddlers hands or reins etc.
