AIBU? Can't decide if I am or not

I’m braving AIBU. I’m not sure how I feel about something and want MN to help.

My husband has a sporty version of a car, there are some owners that like to meet and just look at each other’s cars and ‘pimp’ them so to speak (he does not meet other owners and show off his engine ConfusedGrin)

Husband requested to join a FB group for owners of this particular car and in order to join you have to prove you have one by sending a photo (I know, I know ridiculous) anyway he snapped a quick pic in the dark and sent it, no number plate or anything showing just that it was obviously one of the cars. Admin approved him and asked him to introduce himself to the group. He didn’t.

Today he was scrolling through the group and a member had spotted our car a few days ago on the drive and took a photo of the car and our house and had put a caption along the lines of ‘nice car, does it belong to anyone in this group, x area’ (specific area we live)

Now this has annoyed me, why has a stranger taken a picture of our car and our house and posted it to a Facebook group without permission?
Admittedly the admins do checks on members but anyone could say they own one and be approved to this group. I know anyone can walk past and see both but it seems a bit cheeky to post it to an internet group.

So AIBU to be annoyed or am I being ridiculous?
Fully prepared to accept it if I am being U!

Just saying, no need to get gobby is there 😂 I had some one try and claim on my insurance by using my reg, accusing me of a crash in a placebo I've never been lol so of course ill be wary.

Welcome to geeky car groups. Once you join the Purple Fiat Panda OG you'll never be allowed to talk about any other car. They'll be talking about the difference between the HT cables in the 68 model and the 69 model and how one set is far superior to the other. A picture of your car on your drive is but the tip of the iceberg. Brace yourself for Xmas and birthday pressies with tenuous links to your marque of car,and never ending (crap) "funny" videos being shared to your social media page. The joyGrin

Yeah YABU. It’s just the same view anyone walking past gets.

yam unless it was the sexism what did the magazine do wrong!? A car park is a public place..

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 30/01/2018 01:08

YABU. They don’t need permission to take a photo of your car, your house, or even you and your family for that matter. They also don’t need permission to post them on the internet.

If you don’t like it, I suggest either selling your car, building a garage, never going out again in public in case someone takes your photo or, and I think this is the best option, getting over it Grin

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 30/01/2018 01:13

I think some people just tend to forget that others have a right to privacy and some kind of control over what happens to images of stuff that belongs to them.....

Yambabe Except that they don’t have any rights or control of images of stuff that belongs to them.

The magazine did absolutely nothing wrong; it’s not illegal to take a photo of any object and place it in a magazine; you don’t need the owners permission.

They apologised out of courtesy, not of wrongdoing.

It's odd and a bit creepy to have your house on the group page

Why? I belong to a FB group centred on a place I've often been on holiday. People regularly post photos taken there, regularly featuring houses - it's a very picturesque place. Yes, houses where people actually live. Are they all being creepy? How about the postcards and calendars showing those houses that people dare to sell?

What right would that be, then? Where would I find it set out in law?
