Professional cleaned ruined wooden floors

So, help! Aibu to think the professional cleaners who did a deep clean for me today need to sort out the damage caused to my wooden floors? The floors look very faded and patchy and there is a large patch where the colour has been taken out of the wood entirely. I've saved and spent all my Christmas money etc on this professional clean having been seriously injured 6 months ago and having got behind on cleaning. This was supposed to be a real treat for the children and myself, I'm really really upset. Any advice? The company have insurance. Thanks!

What kind of wooden floor is it? I think I'd be wanting a wooden floors specialist to look at it, to see exactly what the damage is and how it should be fixed. If they have no idea what happened, I would have no confidence in their ability to make it right.

Go to their website and see if their insurance details are on there. Contact them direct. Perhaps speak to your own house insurers on an advice only basis

Sunshinerainbowslollipops · 30/01/2018 15:43

Thanks everyone. I will take all your advice - re it being a treat for my children it was the whole home cleaned which makes it a nicer environment for them but meant that I could take them somewhere nice for the day instead of spending an entire day cleaning, that's the treat not the actual clean.

It's a solid wooden floor, I don't know anymore. Buy yes I don't have confidence in them fixing it

It sounds like they don;t want to pay the excess on the insurance. We are a cleaning company and our excess is £250. which is normal within this industry.

I could be wrong but that might be the motivation for them not wanting to go via the insurance route.

Sunshinerainbowslollipops · 30/01/2018 16:04

Thank you. Yes, I think you could be right. But come on, you ruin someone's floor you have to suck it up and pay. Just like if I crashed into someone in my car etc. Surely?!

Yes you should indeed.

Of course, I can't say for sure that this is why they are avoiding insurance but it seems like the most likely reason to me.

@Noloudnoises I didn't know that! We've new floors in (just a month old) and DP is very attached to his steam mop. Will have to let him know this.

Sunshinerainbowslollipops · 30/01/2018 16:49

Thank you. I don't mind however it gets done. I just worry if I simply get it fixed and Bill them what if they don't pay? The professional would not get paid.

So sorry to hear your still having issues. This sounds like they don't actually have insurance. Sheer stupidity on their part!

Do NOT take any cash offers from them or allow them to sand the floor.

Have you paid for the clean yet? If so, in what form?

NewSingleMummy · 30/01/2018 18:19

Can you add a photo of the damage? I'm guessing they have probably used a bleach based product to clean it

Sunshinerainbowslollipops · 30/01/2018 19:08

I'm not sure how to add a photo here, I will try! I won't be accepting any sanding etc. I paid them in cash. I didn't notice until they had left as it had been concealed with a suitcase (which was out but in a diffferent area of the house). I've still not heard back. I will try again tomorrow but if I hear nothing I will have to go to court. Luckily my uncle is a solicitor so can do what I need for free.

I would have thought they would want to correct any damage they have done, surely they wouldn't want to leave you with a damaged floor

NewSingleMummy · 30/01/2018 21:37

So they have clearly tried to hide the damage. If your using the app on phone, click on the paper clip to add a photo that way.

Be sure to keep any correspondence, sent and received. Use time frames of when they have to get back to you.

These things do happen but need to be corrected. Did they know it was a real wood floor?

I would personally take them to small claims court if they aren't helpful... just to prove a point, especially if they stated they have liability insurance and then leave negative feedback on any public forum

Sunshinerainbowslollipops · 01/02/2018 17:25

Update - after lots of emails and me having to take advice form solicitor and trading standards they have contacted their insurance and admitted it was a bag of bleach that leaked. I now need to get quotes from flooring people next week as that's what the insurance company have asked for and we go from there. Fingers crossed it's true and they have done it and we get it sorted!

Cheeky bastards! Glad you have made progress.

MrsTerryPratchett · 01/02/2018 17:41

Cheeky wankers. Sounds like progress though.

NewSingleMummy · 01/02/2018 19:27

I knew it would be bleach product.. did you sign a bleach contract? To say they are allowed to use it in your home?
