Dd has got an offer from LSE to study Politics and IR which she is ecstatic about.

I don't really know much about it though - I thought that only people who wanted to be bankers went there.

I've also read that the social life, academic support and teaching quality aren't great - does anyone have any experience of LSE?

Check out the accommodation - DSS is paying over £10,000 a year for term-time only! There are some cheaper options I think but definitely look into the options and their availability.

@MinnieMousse

I think dd said she could get a single room non-ensuite in a catered hall for £6000 (termtime only), which doesn't seem too bad for London.

She'd have a bit left over from her loan, and combined with getting a job and some money we could give her, I think she'd have enough to get by, though it would be a stretch.

It's a premier offer from a prestigious and well resourced, well respected institution, she should grab it with both hands!

If she likes the feel of the uni then totally go for it.

She will make friends easily enough if she is in catered halls and has a sport or a hobby she can join a club/society for.

LilSebastian, that is fabulous news! The LSE is a top institution and I am sure that your daughter will love her time there.

I did my postgraduate there in a social science subject, it consistently ranks #2 worldwide in social sciences. Halls were in brilliant locations (I recommend Northumberland Hall). It opened so many doors for me for jobs, people are always impressed when it comes up... However I did not rank the social side or the teaching. I have experience at Oxford and would say the teaching is far better in a proper tutorial system (plus college system is great for pastoral support). But LSE is a great uni. It will take her far.
