To think this couple are cheeky fuckers?!

Just that really... the chairman of a well known ad agency - who earns well over £100k (at least) and his wife (who runs her own business) - have got other people to give them money for an op for their dog to have an expensive operation. They raised £5k though a crowd finding scheme because their insurance only covered some of the cost. Cheeky fuckers the pair of them?

Hopefully they will be shamed into donating a large sum to an animal welfare charity in lieu of others paying for their dog. Think of all the poor old folks who genuinely can’t afford vets bills for their faithful companion ☹️

Whitecurrants · 29/01/2018 10:05

Properly cheeky, but if people want to donate then it's none of my business

astoundedgoat · 29/01/2018 10:23

By the same count, think of all the dogs put to sleep in this country every day, while people donate thousands of pounds to Justgiving fundraisers to import animals into the UK from overseas shelters. Pets + commonsense + money don't always mix.

onemorecakeplease · 29/01/2018 10:53

Yep cf’s

We just paid £7000 for our dog after he was run over. We got it back through insurance but we still would have used every single penny of our savings if we hadn’t been covered.

Would never have thought to ask anyone to help, he’s our dog!

rcit · 29/01/2018 10:56

Onemorecake - I’m assuming your dog is not on instagram with 10000 followers though.

WellThisIsShit · 29/01/2018 10:57

As whisky writes:

“The thing that staggers me is that someone who is paid to be an extremely high-ranking executive in one of the world's leading ad agencies could misjudge the way this would play so badly. He can't be very good at his job of being a channeller of the zeitgeist if he didn't understand how controversial this was bound to be.”

CapnHaddock · 29/01/2018 11:37

It has backfired on them spectacularly. They've shut down the blog and closed their twitter accounts.

AFistfulOfDolores · 29/01/2018 11:52

It's either a case of CFdom, or, given the relatively modest salary and house cost for a Chairman living in the SE, it's a case of looks being deceiving, and they're actually up to their eyeballs in debt.

rcit · 29/01/2018 11:56

I am quite uncomfortable with the Internet persecution of these people. They do not meet my CF definition, certainly!

A CF is like the woman in the supermarket: OP told her “grab some bits as a leaving present” [clearly meaning under £20] and instead of grabbing a box of chocs/wine, she grabbed a large weekly shop of over £70. The much younger op was embarrassed and guilted into paying. Another CF is the woman who asked a neighbour to help out with school run for a couple of days, neighbour agrees and CF tries to drag the arrangement out indefinitely.

This situ here is so different. People knew who the (famous on instagram) dog and the couple were. They asked for help and it was freely given. The money was spent on a sick dog as intended. No deception or cajoling.

This dog business is internet bullying that comes from envy. There is no CF element.

Blackteadrinker77 · 29/01/2018 12:11

They asked, and people gave.

I wouldn't have given them 1p but clearly other people didn't feel that way.

pigshavecurlytails · 29/01/2018 12:18

what sort of idiots would contribute to that?

CatkinToadflax · 29/01/2018 12:19
Jigglytuff · 29/01/2018 12:24

I'm not remotely envious of them rcit. I'm pissed off that they left their dog in pain and suffering because they wouldn't pay for his treatment. Those are not dog lovers although clearly the poor dupes who follow their instagram are.

Viviennemary · 29/01/2018 12:25

Of course it is; But more fool the folks for donating. A fool and his money are easily parted. No sympathy.

MissionItsPossible · 29/01/2018 12:28

They're not CF but the ones who donated are SI (Stupid Idiots)

GeorgeTheHamster · 29/01/2018 12:29

I know it’s not ‘standard’ but it’s not rich people money.

I think if you look at the statistics, for example on the ONS website - it absolutely bloody is!!

blueskypink · 29/01/2018 12:32

No deception or cajoling.

Agreed. But what a massive sense of entitlement!

Much better to have stumped up the money for their own dog and started a crowdfunding page to help dogs in poorer circumstances. No?

LouiseBrooks · 29/01/2018 12:33

Why haven't they got pet insurance FFS?

ShastaTrinity · 29/01/2018 12:40

I can't understand why anyone is sending money to them, when they clearly do not need it! It would be like sending money to help Kate Middleton for her hairdresser, or to Beyonce to pay for her kids snacks. Nothing wrong with being an animal lover and helping them out, but it's more about people believing it will make them famous to give to someone who already is.

I wouldn't be surprised if Saatchy has done that, not for the money which he doesn't need anyway, but to demonstrate his marketing brain and prove a point: you can get people to do or buy anything with the right campaign. It clearly worked.

blueskypink · 29/01/2018 12:51

They do have pet insurance but it only covers £4K and they had a £7.5k shortfall. To be fair, they apparently only intended friends and family to donate (though it seems they have 200 of those). But even so, it never occurred to me to ask my friends and family to contribute to our recent hefty vets bill (and we don't live in Primrose Hill on a large income!)

ShastaTrinity · 29/01/2018 13:00

I have 2 dogs and we do love them. I even understand that for some lonely people, their dog is as important as another human being would be.

Unless it's a marketing stunt, which again I think it is, it's a very cringey move. There are parents in my kids school trying to raise money for their child who has been diagnosed with DIPG, inoperable brain tumour. I don't belive anyone has to donate, but who wouldn't be embarrassed to ask for money for their dog at the same time.

problembottom · 29/01/2018 13:15

Can’t believe he’s meant to be a “marketing genius” yet couldn’t see the flaw in his greedy little scheme... and hasn’t seen the need to apologise now it’s become public knowledge. PR fail!
