To not have a tooth extracted 5 days before I am due to give birth?

I have to have a tooth removed..not a fan of dentists as it is which may be colouring my decision a little. But i am due a week wednesday...do i really want to be recovering from a tooth removal and potentially looking after a newborn?

Would i be unreasonable to rebook for a month or so even though the tooth in question had an abcess last week? I genuinely don't know what to do..

Ps I’ve had a wisdom tooth pulled in the dentists chair. After a few hours I was back to normal. There shouldn’t be that much “recovery”

One of my four wisdom teeth extractions was like that.

The other three not so much...

Would do it now...I opted out when I was due my 2nd DCI remember suffering a tooth/headache day after she was born I was on such strong painkillers I couldn't even breastfeed her or even hold her really. Note had a tooth pulled while pregnant with my first...didnt even notice compared to my pregnancy aches and pains. Oh and newborns stimulate your oxytocin hormone (gorgeous newborn smell=bonding + love)
that hormone can also serve as mild pain relief.

I'd rather give birth again than the pain of toothache. Get it sorted now because you'll really wish you had if it starts after baby arrives.
I couldn't function for three days with a tooth abcess. I couldn't eat or sleep and was mostly in a drugged haze of agony. I could have kissed our dentist when he finally pulled the tooth. That and a newborn would have finished me off I think.

Ask pharmacist if it is ok to take homeopathic arnica. One before, one after, and two or three times a day if needed for a day or two. Helps pain and prevent infection. Good luck.

I had a nasty tooth infection after giving birth. The pain was more intense than labour, not ideal when you have a 3 day old baby to care for.

Glad you're going to get it sorted.

Slartybartfast · 29/01/2018 11:10

once it is out the pain is gone.

I've had two teeth out. First was quick recovery, second I got an infection but was nothing to the pain of toothache and it quickly cleared up with an antibiotic and had the gap packed. I would have it out as when baby's here you're going to be busy and you could suffer.

Ooh get it sorted now - can you imagine dealing with no sleep from dental pain and then having it out to the accompaniment of a screaming newborn?

Dentist has now said to wait till ive had baby. All this anxiety for nothing. Will definitely book in for whilst DP has paternity leave. This tooth needs out.
