Exercise tolerance test tomorrow, panicking

Have been in floods of tears for last hour over it. I hardly have the energy to leave the bloody house never mind start jogging :( , have spent majority of last 8 weeks feeling various kinds of ill and really struggling (flu, tonislitis, heavy period, ear infection and now kidney infection).

When I did somehow pluck up the courage to leave the house on Friday I must have had about 100 'flutters' as cardiologist called them.

Test is apparently to rule out inherited cardiomyopathy, have an ultrasound at 1.30 then this ETT at 2.30. What if I can't run at all? Does that happen, that I could be so ill it's no longer really possible?
My flat is up 42 steps and after climbing them I'm always exhausted and out of breath.. When my mum and uncle had theirs (same tests, uncle has a cardiomyopathy) they both said they were eventually running quite fast. I've hardly moved from bed all day due to persistent exhaustion, vomiting all night due to antibiotics, and I'm terrified for tomorrow.

If you are vomiting from anti biotics aren't you too ill to go? Can you rearrange once the anti biotics are out of your system?

ThePinkOcelot · 28/01/2018 18:30

Don’t worry. You don’t have to run. You could walk at a faster pace. If you do struggle, the test will be stopped.

GlitterGlue · 28/01/2018 18:32

Ok, deep breath. Ring them first thing and ask them if they actually want you to go in if you're unwell.chances are they won't, especially if you're been vomiting, just in case it's not the antibiotics.

If it is the antibiotics they can prescribe anti sickness drugs.

retirednow · 28/01/2018 18:34

I would call the cardiac dept in the morning and explain you are on antibiotics for infection and have been vomiting, they may well cancel and re book it for when you are in better health.

Ellapaella · 28/01/2018 18:35

I don't think you should be going into hospital with all that other illness going on. Ring them and rearrange. You really can't go along if you've been vomiting, you need to be at least 48 hours clear.

Lules · 28/01/2018 18:36

I agree they may well want you to rearrange anyway, but when I had it there was no running just very brisk walking. It was fine and I’m unfit.

shouldnthavesaid · 28/01/2018 18:38

Pretty sure it's the antibiotics - eating fine between time and drinking relatively OK. Just within an hour of taking them I've been throwing them back up - 111 said earlier persist with them as only two doses left.

I've been so worried I'm at imminent risk of some sort of collapse, especially Friday, so I've stopped doing anything at all , even just leaving the house for a walk. Think I've made things much worse for myself in my head.

Will phone clinic in the morning and explain how worried I am, see what they suggest, hopefully can get it done somehow and out the way and get my life back a bit maybe. Just wish it didn't have to involve exercise!

Oh op take a deep breath anxiety sucks esp around tests and the unknown!
Give these guys a call in the morning too on the heart helpline at British heart foundation 0300 330 3311
Sleep well and lets hope the sickness etc settles xx

shouldnthavesaid · 28/01/2018 22:37

I did phone them and they frightened me more, started talking about ICDs and cardiac MRIs and all sorts :(

I have intrusive thoughts every waking moment of every day and spend a great deal of time crying and worrying and ruminating. Then I wonder why I'm tired Hmm.

Haven't been sick again though thank God!
