Bloody antidepressants (citalopram) after a 10 year stint !

Started taking them soon after my youngest son was born - he's amazing and in his final year of primary school now.

I've tried a few times over the last cpl years to come off of citalopram- but the withdrawals had been horrendous- I don't know whether it's been a mind over matter thing but this time I've actually done it ! (And i feel so proud of myself )

10 days without them and I feel like a mist has been cleared.

Feeling better for sure !

(Thx for reading what is likely the most boring thread on here 😆)

@Togaandsandals because it gave me horrific heartburn. Not like the heartburn you get when you're pregnant. Horrific, agonising heartburn that would stop me in my tracks, so me being able to talk and barely able to catch my breath. It was a reaction to the pill itself, so it would be minutes after I swallowed it.

I also gained a lot of weight on it. Nearly 2 stone.
Citalopram I had the opposite effect, I was skinny!

The reason why I changed is because I had been on citalopram for 2 years (which isn't long!) and it had stopped working for me.
Sertraline worked brilliantly but it wasn't worth the pain and weight gain.

I guess I will start citalopram again when my periods return after this baby because I will have had a 2 year break (hopefully if breast feeding keeps periods away!) so it might work again.

@rememberwhenribenatastednice I've been trying to cut down for a few months. Taking thwm every other day and every third day.

RememberWhenRibenaTastedNice · 20/10/2018 09:32

Ok that's good then.
Can I ask why you were taking them initially and are you doing anything along side the citalopram to treat that?

Came off mine too. Was a v rocky road though. Even using Dr advice one every other day etc. Think it's taken me about 6 weeks to feel 'normal' again. Was on mine nearly 4 years though. Would strongly recommend talking to your Dr first

@rememberwhenribenatastednice been doing this for months now. I had been taking it for anxiety. I'm waiting on therapy and im trying use breathing techniques. Its been hard but i dont want to reley on them forever. My heart rate has been up a bit due to the heightened anxiety but other than that I'm not too bad.
