To cheat on my hairdresser?

I don't get my hair cut as often as I should. For one, money is tight; for another thing I'm just not that bothered.

I want to leave my current hairdresser because every time I go, she loudly comments that "it's been a while, hasn't it" and then picks up my hair and tuts sadly and says "it's so long" (even though it's always just above my boobs). She does a perfectly good job, but I feel like deep down, for some reason she really just wants to chop all my hair off.

AIBU to ditch her? How do you go about finding out what other hairdressers are good? I don't really know anybody to ask, and if I ask on a local forum I'm scared she'll see it!

YANBU.

Most hairdressers are sanctimonious and seem to hate their clients.

I would keep my eye open for someone with similar hair type to mine which is cut well and ask them where they get it done?

PencilPen · 26/01/2018 21:21

I find it hard to find a good hairdresser. I would just ignore her remarks and still go there Smile

"Most hairdressers are sanctimonious and seem to hate their clients" Confused

CorporeSarnie · 26/01/2018 21:25

Ask friends whose hair you like where they go, I've ditched two different hairdressers in the last three years, I don't care about offending them now, esp as I'm only going to go once every 12 wks... But they don't get much of a chance to offend me.

Whatshallidonowpeople · 26/01/2018 21:27

I get my hair cut wherever has a special offer on. Your hairdresser doesnt care.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 26/01/2018 21:28

I’m fortunate to have had same hairdresser for 12years,they get me,and my hair
You are paying customer, you need to find a hairdresser who doesn’t belittle you

MonumentalAlabaster · 26/01/2018 21:38

I should add, that is how I found my hairdresser who I've been going to since 1991!

DanglyEarOrnaments · 26/01/2018 21:44

My hairdresser is just lovely and if I get her apprentice instead, she is also just lovely too! They are warm and friendly and highly skilled. I've always found salons I've attended throughout my life to be very friendly but if they were not I would move on.

Pinkprincess1978 · 26/01/2018 22:08

I'm a very loyal person and it took a lot to change hairdresser when I used the same salon for 10+ yrs but I've done it a few times. Now it's about money and getting good value but first time it was because I arrived to my appointment to find my hairdresser (salon owners DD) doing her own roots and she then cut and coloured my hair with her own dye on and a towel around her shoulders. It was the final straw of a few years of unprofessional behaviour.

Every hair dresser I’ve had says shopping around is part of the business. You’re not happy, go somewhere else. YANBU

HairBlues · 26/01/2018 22:23

If she cuts your hair well and does a good job and you like the result, I'd grin and bear it. Two hours uncomfortable appointment is worth weeks of good hair. (Trust me on this!)

However if she is average or so-so AND she makes you feel uncomfortable then I'd just pick somewhere else. I'd go local or ask someone you know whose hair you like who they go to.

When I was a child my mum insisted on getting a home hairdresser because she was very cheap, but she used to give me the worst, most unfashionable haircuts and she always used to pull my hair and was just generally unpleasant. When she decided to stop using her after about 10 years it was really awkward whenever we saw her around town.

Since then I’ve been very aware of not being stuck going to one person and feeling like I can’t go to anyone else, so I go to a different salon every time now.
