Hoover as a present

My mil has been saying for a while that she wants a Henry hoover. She only works pt and cares for disabled bil the rest of the time so doesn't have spare cash.
She's been helping me a lot with childcare recently as I've been injured. I bought her a massage voucher as a thank you but wibu to buy her the hoover too? I see people on here complain about gifts like that and I wouldn't consider it for a birthday or Christmas gift (we always get nice treat gifts for them) but would it be ok for a 'just because' gift or is it still naff?

Oh sorry! I just re-read your OP and it's clear it wasn't for a birthday. But still, buying her a hoover she wants can't be seen as anything other than a lovely gesture if it isn't a birthday present! Grin

Like wrinkle cream only suitable present if asked for

DW got a gtech air ram for her 30th from her dad. I got a recycling bin from FIL for Christmas, a kettle from SIL and an electric toothbrush from DW. All were very much wanted! Just means I can spend my money on fun things 😀

Speaking as someone whose hoover packed in yesterday, I would prize that gift above a Faberge Egg right now! Go for it .

If she’s asked for it it’s a great gift. I asked for a hoover for Xmas from parents and it’s the best present ever. I hated my Henry though for what it’s worth. Faffing about with a bag, heavy, got stuck in all the door ways, tipped over.. little shit has been sent to DPs mancaveshed to hoover up sawdust and wood chips

Another one saying that if the person wants one I'm definitely that sort of person then it's a brilliant gift!!

RavenLG · 26/01/2018 20:54

Ah that’s good then OP. I couldn’t get on with ours at all! I would shout at him on a regular basis the poor thing Grin

I think she’ll be delighted 😀
