To think the landlord is responsible for sorting this!

Arguing with my husband because we seem to disagree.

We have been tenants in our flat for 3.5yrs. Never missed a rent payment, no noise problems, neighbours like us etc.

Landlord is lady who bought the flat from her son, our original landlord about 6 months into our first tenancy. She is often away in Spain and acts quite put out if we contact her for any repairs (we do this once or twice a year normally!)

Anyway, long story short as much as possible. We have had problems with dampness on the lounge carpet once before and she sent out the "handyman" she never sends an actual tradesman it's the same guy for everything. He said it was related to the boiler and done his thing and eventually it dried up.

Fast forward two weeks ago my husband resealed the bathroom sealant (he is not very good with DIY by his own admission) and now the damp patches in the lounge are back. He's convinced the two are connected.

I got a plumber out today and he said it's unlikely that's the reason it's probably the boiler or a pipe under the carpet.

The stain is getting worse and he thinks it's our responsibility to fix things! I think it's definitely the landlords and we haven't done anything wrong, we tried our best! He's worried she may try and evict us because of the damage Shock he's a worrier bless him but it's starting to piss me off as it needs sorting and we don't have the money for plumbing work on a rented property!

You are completely in the wrong Stop talking shit.

In my experience landlords use the cheapest trades person who in turn then does a shit job. Hense the word “cheap”

We have done minor repairs ourselves in the past as it can be too much hassle getting the landlord to arrange it

Stop talking shit

does that mean no, you did not have permission to enter the premises while they were on holiday?

It’s really crap to tar all landlords with the same brush, unless you feel it’s fair to tar all tenants with the same brush?!

blondiebea. hopefully it’ll get sorted quickly & relatively painlessly.

Re your DH’s bath sealing, umm, how the actual fuck could he think the two are related, unless your bath is in your lounge? 🧐🙄😂

If you want to see if he’s done an adequate job, you might be able to remove the front panel of the bath & have a look. If you can’t because some idiot chose to tile the front of the bath, then just have a look and see what you think. You can always remove the sealant and have another go or just ask whoever comes about the leak to do it. If the old stuff is cleaned off it’s a 2 minute job.

If your DH’s DIY skills are anything like his analytical skills I’d ban him from touching anything and just make a list for the LL.
