To think she's trying to pull a fast one?

Selling an item of jewellery on Preloved. Had an offer, below what I wanted, but she was adamant she wanted the item. So far she's sent me 2 echeques via PayPal which I've refused to accept as they take up to 10 days to clear and she wants me to post the item ASAP. She's now saying she'll send me a bank transfer once I send her the post office tracking details. AIBU to think she's trying to pull a fast one and if I were to send it without payment first I'd never see any mine for it?!

Block her and find a decent buyer.

Somerford · 25/01/2018 09:42

Don't agonise over it, you're wasting your time I think. Just tell her to forget about it and crack on with selling your jewellery to somebody who isn't going to turn a simple transaction into a big drama.

Travis1 · 25/01/2018 09:45

Just tell her no you'e had asking price elsewhere and block. Not worth the hassle

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 25/01/2018 09:45

Definitely a CF, block and ignore.

Emmasmum2013 · 25/01/2018 09:45

DO NOT SELL TO HER!
This is a well known scam. If you'd have accepted the cheque it would have never cleared and the woman would have disappeared.
If you send the item and the tracking number, the money will never appear in your bank and you'll never hear from the person again.

Report her to PreLoved. Don't post anything until you've seen the colour of their money.

Glumglowworm · 25/01/2018 09:46

Avoid like the plague

Even if you can get her to pay before you send it, she sounds like a scammer who will claim it never arrived/was faulty and get a refund and keep your item. So I’d be refusing to sell it to her at all at this point.

Emmasmum2013 · 25/01/2018 09:48

It sounds like an 'overpayment' scam or similar

"Alternatively the scammer may send a cheque for more money than the agreed sale price. The scammer will invent an excuse for the overpayment, such as to cover the fees of an agent or extra shipping costs, or that it was simply human error. The scammer will then ask you to refund the excess amount – usually through an online banking transfer, pre-loaded money card, or a wire transfer – before you discover that their cheque has bounced. See Overpayment scams for more information.

In both cases, you will lose the money you gave the scammer, and if you have already sent the item you were selling, you will lose it as well."

BitOutOfPractice · 25/01/2018 09:50

Oh yes definitely a scam. I'd report her to the site too

LordSugarWillSeeYouNow · 25/01/2018 09:56

Op- this is your item to sell.

This person does not get to dictate the terms and conditions to you.

You are in charge.

Unless you can see the money then do not agree a sale with her.

Also, if you're not happy with the price then you say NO.

I would call her bluff and say someone else has messaged and wants it but is willing to pay ( 2/3/5/10 ) more and see how much she really wants it.

This item is possibly valuable.

Do not let this woman manipulate you Flowers

AnnieAnoniMouse · 25/01/2018 09:56

Everything everyone has already said!

YOU are the seller, you dictate the terms AND the price. She can be as adamant as she likes, it’s up to you what the price is!

I wouldn’t deal with her, I’d just block her now.

feska5 · 25/01/2018 10:06

She’s trying to scam you for sure. If she’s so adamant she wants the item tell her to pay the price you determine by Paypal. Personally I would block her.

GladAllOver · 25/01/2018 10:11

Even if she pays by PayPal, she can still claim not to have received it.
PayPal always takes the buyer's side in disputes.

StrangeLookingParasite · 25/01/2018 10:26

She's now saying she'll send me a bank transfer once I send her the post office tracking details.

Nooooope.

Justonedayatatime11 · 25/01/2018 10:31

Damn. Guess I'll tell her to jog on then. Why do people do that?! It's so stupid

Email her saying you've posted it, here is the proof of posting link and send her a link to this thread Grin

Kittypillar · 25/01/2018 10:36

So frustrating when people try this!

I'd report her to Preloved (does seem very suspicious!) and then just block her. It really does sound like she's trying to pull a fast one, don't let her.

Justonedayatatime11 · 25/01/2018 10:40

I've reported her to Preloved, thanks for confirming my suspicions!

Hissy · 25/01/2018 10:41

scammers very often get angry and aggressive and try to pressure you to send things out, it's part of their tactics

refuse to be rushed, report her to Preloved and tell her the item is not available for sale to her.

ThisLittleKitty · 25/01/2018 10:46

People do it because people fall for it. The fact you've ever had to ask says it all really doesn't it.

GottadoitGottadoit · 25/01/2018 11:03

Why do people do that?! It's so stupid

You’re asking why people commit petty crime? Confused

KeepServingTheDrinks · 25/01/2018 11:07

What everyone else said, plus remember it's a necklace.... they don't generally take up a massive amount of space. It's not as if you're shifting your old sofa because the new one's coming.

Why don't you wait until you get a seller who's prepared to offer what you want for your item/what you think it's worth?
