To think I will never sleep again?

I think I have the fussiest baby ever at night Sad

He's 7 weeks.
The first couple of weeks he was perfectly happy to sleep in the snuzpod and I would never pick him up at night just BF him lying down and he would go back down.
Through the day he falls asleep on me and I can pop him down for his naps once he's gone, he never fusses much about going to sleep.

However night time is completely different now. If I lay him down he fusses and keeps whipping his head from side to side and paws at his face, after a bit of this he gets whinge and angry and then goes into crying. Dummy doesn't work as he keeps either spitting it out and getting angry about it or pawing it out with his hand.
He will only fall asleep on my chest and even then when I put him on myself he will be smashing his face against my chests, kicking his legs and dribbling everywhere. I usually have to force him to keep the dummy in and do an awkward rock whilst laying down. Once he's fallen I can't put him down or he goes back to the head whipping fussiness and cries.
He's always burped, has a clean nappy and not to hot or warm.

Where did I go wrong?

My wee one took this notion around that time also - lasted for about a week then settled again. Just another one of those fourth trimester joys I think!

DS2 paws at his face when he's teething, maybe it's that? Sounds daft that young, I know, but some kids start very early. Maybe try popping the dummy in the fridge and giving it to him cold, if it soothes him then it's probably teething pain.

Unfortunately it already been nearly 2 weeks @Nurse15 and there's no change so far.
Doesn't help that DS1 - who usually sleeps through 7-7 is not well so he's up 2-3 times a night too

Have you tried a swaddle? Will stop him being able to get his hands to his face and might help to make him feel more secure?

That sounds like DS - I was on my knees with exhaustion at 7 weeks. The only thing that worked for us was putting him to sleep on his tummy (with a breathing monitor in case of SIDS). It was a revelation, he suddenly slept so much better!

colic?

OrigamiOverload · 25/01/2018 09:44

I second a swaddle and a white noise machine/app.

Swaddled up, dummy in white noise on. Maybe a bit of rocking in the pram too. (My DD slept in the pram next to our bed for 4/5 months. Got a rocking crib when DS came along.)

Is he developing eczema on his face? Mine had that and was perpetually grouchy till we finally got it sorted. No longer term problems - he's not had it since. Try keeping cheeks well moisturised, if you think it might be that, using more cream than you thought possible more times a day than you think necessary.

I wouldn't be forcing him to have the dummy if he doesn't want it, but you know best whether he'd later be missing it.
