Temp not coming down with calpol

9 week old: had jabs today and has now had three doses of calpol (last one at 8:15pm) but temperature is 38.5 and not coming down.

111 referred to OOH who said to monitor and take him to A&E if it got to 40.

He also said to continue administering calpol every 4 hours rather than limiting to 3 doses.

I'm worried as calpol isn't bringing temp down. What should I do?

Sorry no AIBU: posting for traffic as quite concerned for DS.

Thanks kaytee - I can just about manage one more day, I think!

Try and get a rest @janeylacey, no need to check temp every half hour, lengthen it to once an hour and close your eyes in between if at all possible

Hope all is well, just echoing what others have said - after a horrible reaction to 8 week jabs she sailed through the rest - think she only needed 2 or 3 doses of Calpol at 16 weeks and was otherwise fine Smile

Really good to know @Pumpkinpie657. He's been sleeping it off today and seems much better in himself this afternoon.

Still a slightly high temperature but we've stopped giving him calpol and it hasn't gone up. What a horrible 24 hours!

It is horrible I know... like an awful rite of passage but you’ve come through it and one good thing that came out of it for me is that I’m much better at recognising when he temp is genuinely high even without the thermometer.

I am glad your little one is better I've only just popped back in, my dd was 15lb but she was 10 weeks when she had them. The out of hours doc told me to give her the 5ml! It went straight down and she was much better. I would ask your own gp so that you know if it's OK to do for next time (I didn't advise just upping the dose before anyone says)
It's probably not good for kidneys if given all the time but my dd actually has suspected kidney reflux and I have been told by the docs to give Calpol rather than ibuprofen as it easier for the kidneys to process.

Glad he’s feeling better. DS turned a corner after 24hrs and was much perkier after 48hrs. He slept a lot uncharacteristly too.

Very little reaction to all others apart from heat and localised redness at the jab site. Maybe a little more grumpy but no fever and no need for loads of meds. No idea why the first was so bad, he was 10wks old at the time due to a holiday and no appointments!
