Today is just one of those days! (apologies for the long post!)
Last March we noticed signs of a water leak in our concrete slab on the ground floor of our house - suspected cause; a central heating pipe leak from our kitchen radiator going into the floor. (We knew the signs as the same thing had happened in a different location previously). Insurer was called, appointed contractor came out, 'investigated' several times, removed lots of decoration and floor coverings from our ground floor while doing so, and caused damage.
The investigations were completed and the contractor concluded that although the signs were there of a leak, they couldn't definitely detect one (no digging up around the actual pipe/wet floor area), and so nothing was covered by our insurer after all - claim closed. We were begrudgingly given money to rectify damages and redecorate and sent on our way.
Our confidence in our ability to identify a leak was in tatters, so we hired a surveyor at our cost on recommendation of our insurer's contractor who said it must be a structural issue as it was DEFINITELY NOT a leak.
Surveyor couldn't find any structural issues, and told us how to rectify some of the damages caused by what must have been historical water damage, as it was clear from the insurers report that there was NO LEAK.
We couldn't complete the works last year, and were busy scheduling the works for this year, when we realised not long ago that lurking under temporary floor covering, the damp area had gotten much worse, and more areas of the house were water damaged. It took us a couple of days to put two and two together, but we now nave photographic and video evidence that our central heating system is losing water somewhere. i.e. THERE IS A LEAK AFTER ALL.
Thus far the insurance company and contractor have been non-plus about it all. We're having to wait a week for the contractor to visit and investigate before we can make a complaint, and heaven knows how much damage the past 10 months worth of leaking has done!
I'm really cross, I feel like this should have all been sorted out last March when we claimed originally, but instead lots more damage has been allowed to happen, and we have been given false information by insurer's contractor.
AIBU to be really cross at our insurer and their contractor?
