To ask for honeymoon advice

DP and I are getting married in a few months and had originally decided to go to Zakynthos, Greece for our honeymoon for 1 week, then changed our minds to 10 days in Mexico.

We were talking last night and have now decided that we both quite fancy a longer honeymoon, so are thinking of 1 month somewhere.

I've always fancied a west coast USA road trip, DP would like to go to Australia - but we're still undecided and looking for other options to consider.

So...if you had 1 month and +/- 10k for a once in a lifetime honeymoon, where would you go?

What month are you getting married? Don't forget it might be winter in Australia by then.

AstridWhite · 23/01/2018 15:24

For that time with that budget I'd do an American road trip, possibly going into Mexico, or south east Asia. Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, not all of them but a combination of two or three.

SmilingButClueless · 23/01/2018 15:25

Australia’s lovely, but it’s actually quite a tight budget for two of you for a month.

I’d do a couple of weeks travelling around somewhere in Asia (Sri Lanka or Malaysia perhaps) and a couple of weeks in the Maldives / Seychelles for the, ahem, relaxation part Wink

KTDaly · 23/01/2018 15:28

A little unrelated but be careful of going to Mexico if you plan to conceive in the next 6 months and ensure you use protection due to the ZIKA virus.

mumblechum0 · 23/01/2018 15:29

I echo what Smiling says; Australia is going to cost closer to £20k for a month as you'd really need to fly business.

Sri Lanka then Maldives would be a great idea imo.

I personally wouldn't do US at the moment, we've had some wonderful holidays doing California road trips etc but not giving the US a single traveller cent whilst Trump is in power Grin

etap · 23/01/2018 15:30

Butlins, and spend the other 8k on something useful

5BlueHydrangea · 23/01/2018 15:36

We went to Kerala, S India for our honeymoon. Amazing experience. We travelled around so saw quite a few places. Really varied.
With that kind of budget you could stay in some fantastic places. We had a great time for 2 weeks but spent way less!

Badgerloco · 23/01/2018 15:50

I’d go to Australia and Bali. I’ve seen a lot of the USA and much preferred Brisbane and Seminyak in Bali.

Kittykatmacbill · 23/01/2018 16:01

Half that money and go to India or China, or the whole lot in japan.

spiritofadventure · 23/01/2018 16:05

Excellent suggestions so far!

We're getting married in May so no, not ideal for Australia.

We do have the option of upping the budget a bit...could probably stretch to 13k and we could just also have a week away straight after the wedding and save the month long trip for when the weather is ideal....

So much to think about!!!

Depends on time of year and what those countries are like then. Personally I would choose New Zealand or Japan.

Picklepickle123 · 23/01/2018 16:11

I would say Japan, or you could do Malaysia with Hong Kong and Singapore.

spiritofadventure · 23/01/2018 16:34

No plans to conceive anytime soon!

LOVE the sound of Japan!!

SE Asia......... that’s where I went!

We did Hong Kong, Vietnam and Thailand..... it was amazing! So much so that we’re going back to Vietnam next week, and touring Cambodia too!

Tinkerbec · 23/01/2018 16:43

I liked Australia in August wasn’t too cold but it depends if you want a sun holiday.

Didn’t fly business either. Stopped over in LA.

Magpiemagpie · 23/01/2018 16:53

I've done 3-6 weeks holidays in recent years
Used several companies but I would highly reccomend
escape worldwide . They are fantastic

They give you some rough ideason the website but then you can tweak everything so extra days , here less days somewhere else mores expensive hotels or cheaper ones and if you see a particular hotel elsewhere you can ask them to price it for you

They include all transfers and flights they undercut kuoni by at least 1500 on one of our holidays to Thailand

Viva holidays are good for the states and Mexico if you want to do multi city but they don't include transfers

LittleFeileFooFoo · 23/01/2018 16:58

We went to Mongolia! Fantastic time, went riding on the steppes. Used a trekking group called Zavkhan. It was great!

Bobbiepin · 23/01/2018 17:01

Be careful about things like monsoon or hurricane season too. We went to Mexico in August and the weather was amazing but the was a hurricane out to sea one night we were there. Granted we were in a swim up room overlooking the Caribbean sea so watching the storm was amazing but I would have been quite annoyed if it was like that the whole time.

I can definitely recommend doing something straight after the wedding and then a bigger honeymoon later on. We went to Venice for a long weekend the week after and then did Cancun a couple of months later. Perfect weather in Italy in May and Mexico in August. It also gives you something to look forward to after the craziness of the wedding has calmed down.

AgnesBrownsCat · 23/01/2018 17:01

That’s a lot of money to spend on a holiday . I’d go somewhere lovely for ten days and keep the rest for another holiday next year .

Montsti · 23/01/2018 17:05

You could also do South Africa followed by Mauritius on the way home...

Cape Town (so much to do), Winelands, Garden Route, Kruger National Park for Safari and then jet off to Mauritius from Jo’burg for a beach break...

Unfortunately May not great weather wise for Cape Town though...

Montsti · 23/01/2018 17:05

Could com Vic Falls too in the above trip and/or Namibia etc...

spiritofadventure · 23/01/2018 17:44

South Africa and Mauritius 😮 Sounds absolutely perfect!!

Skegness or Blackpool.

Tinkhasflown · 23/01/2018 18:17

We took a month and drove across Canada, staying in Banff, Jasper and Vancouver including a train ride through the Rockies. We followed it up with a cruise up into Alaska. We are quite outdoorsey but it was the trip of a lifetime

specialsubject · 23/01/2018 18:23

Australia is quite big and there are good times of year for different parts. Winter is a good time to go to the tropical bits.
