I work somewhere very odd

The manager tells workers other people hate them and talk about them
The manager tells others what their colleagues are off sick with
The admin staff email the manager moaning instead of confronting the person themselves
Staff secretly audit other staffs work!
The manager tells women going on mat leave not to dare ask for part time
Weird?

Isn't it crazy that a culture is so ingrained that loads of randoms were able to identify the type of workplace from your description?

Sounds grim OP. Hope you get out soon.

parrotonmyshoulder · 23/01/2018 05:51

Also sounds like every school ever.

Busybeesbutt · 23/01/2018 10:47

I've been qualified for 11 years I'm not new to the system. If I could find something to give me the same wage and conditions id be fine

Private sector can be shit too in terms of management. I have worked in private sector where they act illegally and just put money aside for pay outs if taken to court.

IJustLostTheGame · 23/01/2018 10:53

Medical records?

Busybeesbutt · 23/01/2018 17:09

Nurse

Stickaforkinimdone · 23/01/2018 22:54

Yup, knew it!

What you're describing sounds oh so familiar; I do think it's a bit of an NHS public sector thing
I am a fellow HCP and honestly some of the things that go on.....

Good luck

Busybeesbutt · 23/01/2018 23:03

It's sickening really isn't it? So now I've got to look for a job on mat leave!

OP posts:
Busybeesbutt · 24/01/2018 17:18

And our manager can't work the online absence system so has asked a member of staff to help hence that person now knows what we've all been off sick with!

OP posts:
ohfourfoxache · 24/01/2018 18:59

That’s definitely one for HR....

And they wonder why so many nurses are leaving? And why there are HUGE R&R issues in general?

Busybeesbutt · 24/01/2018 19:05

Seriously it's disgusting. My manager also thinks women who take a years maternity leave are lazy ffs

OP posts:
Busybeesbutt · 25/01/2018 17:16

And the manager told another colleague at the Xmas night she's told higher management we both need the money so won't be dropping hours

OP posts:
UpTownFuck · 25/01/2018 17:18

I'm going with nhs to I know people who worked on completely different departments/ hospitals and both places are exactly like this

Busybeesbutt · 25/01/2018 17:22

How does she know how much money I have?!?

OP posts:
Pippin8 · 25/01/2018 17:40

Exactly the same issues in my Team. Are you community based by any chance?

Busybeesbutt · 25/01/2018 17:55

No I worked on the community and it was so much nicer than this crap

OP posts:
Bluelady · 25/01/2018 17:58

Horrified but knew instantly it was NHS.

Busybeesbutt · 25/01/2018 18:22

The team has been going for 4 years and turnover is ridiculous.

OP posts:
BhajiAllTheWay · 25/01/2018 18:29

OP my workplace sounds similar...not public sector though. You have my sympathy.

Busybeesbutt · 25/01/2018 18:42

It's crap isn't it? I wonder how these people aren't worried sick about their behaviour

OP posts:
AlwaysSpellingMyName · 25/01/2018 18:43

As soon as I read your OP I knew it had to be NHS.

I interviewed (& successful got) a job in a department like this. Thankfully I knew former employees who all warned me about management. I turned down the post and stayed in community. Thank my lucky stars I did. I have seen the same Band 5 post advertised 8 times in a year. They have the highest staff turn over and the manager is just awful.

Busybeesbutt · 25/01/2018 19:00

Always lucky you got a heads up. It's hard to gauge the tone of somewhere isn't it?

I'm NHS and my manager is lovely with HR type stuff. He was great when I told him I was pregnant, put no pressure on me to make a decision about what I wanted to do afterwards, told me to do whatever I needed to do with regard to taking time off for appointments without needing to let him know every time.

I've heard horror stories about the (thankfully now retired) manager of an associated department though. Telling women he was disappointed in them for putting having a family above the needs of the service, making a male colleague cancel the annual leave (that had already been approved) he'd booked to follow on from his paternity leave.

Busybeesbutt · 25/01/2018 19:16

Ffs spam how awful. How dare people question others right to a family

OP posts:
TheBrilliantMistake · 25/01/2018 19:19

Totally wrong, but not so weird.
I think such behaviours aren't particularly rate.
