To think this customer was ridiculous?

Collecting an order from Boots today and the woman serving me (assuming she was the manager) was called over to help the woman serving next to her.

Man started ranting because he wanted to return vitamins he bought because found them £2 cheaper else where.

Manager very polite apologised and explained they can’t accept returns on vitamins. But he wouldn’t accept this answer and continued to rant and rave.

Aibu to think firstly he’s a dick and should have just sucked up the £2 loss and also I wouldn’t be happy buying any medication/vitamins second hand .. anything could have been done to them.

Yip, customers are a bloody nightmare sometimes.

Polarbearflavour · 22/01/2018 17:39

Had the vitamins been opened?!

Sirzy · 22/01/2018 17:42

I think a lot of people don’t realise they don’t have an automatic right to return things just because they have changed their minds.

MsHopey · 22/01/2018 17:44

I actually had someone buy a pack of noodles for 30p when the shelf label said 29p.
Obviously we gave him the money back, but thought it was odd that he noticed it when he'd brought a whole basket of shopping, and was willing to queue up to get the penny back.

This. If you are able to return something, it’s at the shops discretion (barring fault goods, obviously).

Regardless of whether they have been opened or not, medicine and vitamins can never be taken back, and for good reason!

I think it's the point of it rather than the money though. Eg If somewhere like Tesco accidentally charged an extra 1p on each item in your trolley and everyone was too embarrassed to ask for their penny back, they'd rake in extra billions. I'd probably ask for my penny back too Grin

treaclesoda · 22/01/2018 17:48

But the man in the OP was indeed being a bit of a dick.

ScreamingValenta · 22/01/2018 17:50

Yes - I can understand £2 being a lot of money to some people, but the onus is on the customer to shop round before buying.

Thistlebelle · 22/01/2018 17:52

Customers can be incredibly unreasonable.

Everyone should be made to work in a retail environment for a few months to gain a little empathy with shop assistants.

I’m still scarred from working in a shop in a student. I had customers scream at me, throw things at me, threaten me and lie about me. On none of these occasions had I done anything wrong or provided less than excellent customer service.

Some people are just incredibly badly behaved in shops.

clumsyduck · 22/01/2018 17:56

Yeh customer was a dick and agree with thistle not worked in retail but used to work in a customer facing role and honestly some people treat you like you a scum and think they can speak to you however they like

sexnotgender · 22/01/2018 19:56

I’ve worked in retail and hospitality, never again!!
