To ask you how to clean Ewan!

DD has a Ewan the dream sheep. It's a god send and helps her drift off to sleep at night time and daytime naps.

She particularly likes to suck on its ears Hmmwhich means that he now absolutely stinks to high heaven.

Has anyone managed to successfully clean one? I've tried hand washing his face and ears but it took all day to dry and didn't last longer than the first night.

I don't really want to buy a new one as the same thing will happen to that one too I imagine.

Any advice is appreciated!

Also posted in sleep but got no replies so posting here for traffic.

If there are no electrics in his head, could you put his body in a plastic bag, seal it tightly at the neck (sorry Ewan!) and dunk his head (carefully) in a bowl of water. And scrub the hell out of his ears.

I have had to Google Ewan to se what you are up against!

My granddaughter has Ewan and loves him to bits. She is three now and my daughter has removed all his electronic innards. He goes in the washing machine and tumble drier regularly.
Granddaughter isn't bothered and still loves him to bits. My daughter did buy a new one but it eventually went manky too and they are not cheap.

Frankiewears · 22/01/2018 18:29

I would personally just buy a new one.

I'm not sure if this would work but could you use a pet foam shampoo?

You spray it on and then rub it in and it doesn't need washing off.

I don't know how safe it would be for children but the idea is that it's fine for pets to ingest so may be alright?

I'd probably rinse it with water after using it if I was you.

Thanks for all the replies!

I'm going to put him in a bag and wash his face tomorrow and try to give it a good scrub.

If that doesn't work then it's time for the operating theatre for Ewan and I will prey to God I can put him back together again!

Stardrops in warm water and applied using a cloth, like you would to clean upholstery. You don't let it get more than damp and the Stardrops cleans brilliantly.

FuzzyCustard · 22/01/2018 18:34

Oooh OP, I reckon this is the first time ever on MN that someone has gone with my advice!

Good luck!

They are only £30 👀

Honestly buy new, save yourself the hassle, when new on comes, wash ears with dettol so she doesn’t suck and chew on them anymore. I have had 3 of these pests! 😩

AllTheGoodOnesAreUnavailable · 22/01/2018 18:37

£30 is a lot of money to me!

I would get a second one, and then you have a bit more time to play with for washing and drying as Number 2 Ewan can take a turn. Also Number 2 Ewan will need to get appropriately manky before he is likely to be an acceptable substitute with no moaning. You also have a back up in case Number 1 Ewan gets left somewhere etc.

IceCreamIceCream · 22/01/2018 18:44

I have 5. Yes 5.
DD has chewed the original so badly it looks like a white walker, an ear fell off in her hand the other day. Despite regularly giving him a wipe down he is still a toxic biohazard and she doesn’t love the others as much so finally bit the bullet and took out his innards to wash him in a pillowcase. She now has him as a primary and I play one of the others if she wakes.

FlaviaAlbia · 22/01/2018 19:21

It was fiddly, but it was more that I detest the damn thing so putting it back together went against the grain.

I like frippit's idea of just not putting the electrics back it.
