To wish that my body could

automatically work out the calories that my mouth accepts and then switch off accepting at a level set by me? 😂😂😂

I'm classed as obese and understand that less calories in than calories out will make me shrink but even when eating healthily, I find it difficult to calculate the total value of a main meal unless its written on the back of a microwave meal ( which is clearly not the way to go)

Anyone else?

Calorie counting when you cook from scratch is actually really tricky and time consuming.

jay55 · 22/01/2018 16:32

MyFitnessPal and the line are a help as you can put all the ingredients into a recipe and then say what portion you’re eating.

But yes I wish my mouth had an off switch.

Heartoffire · 22/01/2018 16:38

Totally and why isn’t the liver a muscle that needs exercising and the heart an organ that needs resting Grin

taskmaster · 22/01/2018 16:41

you don't need to actually calorie count though. Just don't eat stuff that is high in calories, eat a little of the stuff that is quite high in calories, and eat lots of the stuff that is low in calories.
And eat less all together.

Coastalcommand · 22/01/2018 16:45

Weight watchers is good for this.

10thingsIhateAboutTheDailyMail · 22/01/2018 16:46

Fdp, well that is sort of what happens to people who are naturally a stable (low) weight.

Think it is a hormone call grehlin, that is released when you are full, it makes you stop eating. If I remember correctly.

For lots of people, diets are not necessary, they can just listen to their body.

I imagine that dieting somehow fucks up this satiety hormone!

amusedbush · 22/01/2018 16:53

Weight watchers is good for this.

WW is just as convoluted if you cook from scratch as you need to use the recipe builder, like you would if you count calories on MFP. Not to mention how restrictive the new plan is unless you live on chicken breast and eggs! but that's a rant for another day

Just don't eat stuff that is high in calories, eat a little of the stuff that is quite high in calories, and eat lots of the stuff that is low in calories.

I've tried every diet out there to lose weight but I've never once thought of it like that Blush it's so simple but yeah... that's what I should be doing instead of weighing out my salad to find the correct calories! Blush

Heartoffire · 22/01/2018 16:57

I know it’s trite but true. Eat less move more. Grin

junperoo · 22/01/2018 16:57

Eat plants and animals (unless you're a vegetarian). As many plants as you like, except potatoes and bananas which should be eaten i koderation - maybe a serving of each a day. Snacks can be things like 150g natural yoghurt (0%), 20g nuts, 15g cheese etc. 3 meals a day, 2 snacks. Weight will fall off you. Don't fuss about calories. Go for a 30min walk everyday at least. Have a cheat meal once a week of whatever you fancy to keep you on track (cheat meal not day!). It's tough. You can do it x

crackerjacket · 22/01/2018 16:59

YANBU. I often think this.

junperoo · 22/01/2018 16:59

I thoroughly recommend Joe Wicks cookbooks or Chloe Madeley 4 week body blitz (you can do the, without the exercise and will see results, just go for at least a 30min walk every day).

athingthateveryoneneeds · 22/01/2018 17:01

My philosophy is to not eat stuff made in a factory, or failing that, foods with five ingredients or fewer. I don't do a great job sticking to this 100% of the time, but it's a pretty good way to keep away from the worst foods.

fdp86 · 22/01/2018 19:14

Pffft so fed up about it. Might try mfp app again. 😁
