About Cristiano Ronaldo being mocked?

Cristiano Ronaldo is being widely mocked for borrowing a doctor's phone to look at himself after being kicked in the head.

I know the man is vain, but I'm sorry, if I'd been kicked in the head and was profusely bleeding, I'd want to have a look at what the damage was too! And if there wasn't a mirror I'd probably use a phone.

Is it not just human curiosity when you get injured to want to know how bad it is?

Did we even make it to 20 posts before someone mentioned how hard rugby players are compared to namby pamby footballers? Hmm

I don't like him as I think he goes down too easily and likes to get other players into trouble. But he is a phenomenal player and athlete

Rugby isn't a very intelligent game. Really?

Both games are equally intelligent/boneheaded. I've taught enough fairly elite young players to know!

Ronaldo is what he is... a self acknowledge vain man who plays like an angel and has a philanthropic streak a mile wide.

I imagine he will read the nasty comments and smile, maybe even think of a way to take the piss out of himself for it. He won't be bothered by it, he is also a sensible, media savvy individual, with a long history of ignoring/using social media to his own ends.

Rugby is associated with private schools to a greater extent. It’s a class signifier for some people, apparently.Confused

No tattoos? Respect.

There are two very different codes

I accept the fact in general he is as described further up "a bit of a preening git"

But surely when you've got blood streaming down your face from an injury near the eye you want to see it. I really don't understand the mockery.

Also moscomphensiob of rugby being a man's game, I'm sorry you go straight off for that sort of injury in rugby and rightfully so, football actually introduced the blood shirt change later than rugby so you could say look at all those rugby players having to go off and change their shirts real men play on. (I know the blood shirt rule in both games is for health and safety)

And yes towards in rugby come across as big piles of muscle. The game it's self and the backs are very intelligent.

Rugby union is not associated with public schools in Wales. and in our part of the north west it is much more middle class to follow football than rugby league.

Anyhow, I saw this TV program featuring Ronaldo once, where a group of scientists had him in a sports hall and they had someone crossing the ball into the box for him to volley and score. They were turning off the lights at earlier and earlier points in the crossed ball's flight, to see if he could judge in the dark where to connect with it and still score. Finally they turned off the lights a split second before the other guy actually struck the ball and, just from his run up, Ronaldo worked out exactly where the ball was coming to him and scored. Every time. In the bloody dark! How much sheer hard work and practice would you have to do to get that good?

BitOutOfPractice · 22/01/2018 13:24

@TinklyLittleLaugh I've just watched that! Absolutely amazing. Not even that he scored but that he even made contact with the ball. One header, one kick, one off his shoulder. Wow!

I love rugby and football and I really admire Ronaldo's skill. He donates significant sums to charity too. He is vain, but so what. His family setup is very odd (I suspect that the women are a string of beards) but as long as all the children are happy and safe and no one is being manipulated, again, so what. And of course he wanted to check his injury, his body is his fortune.
