I probably am. But I'm telling anyway.

I went to a very small country town today (we're in Oz) and there was a little "Op Shop" as they're called here.

It wasn't a charity shop though, more a junk shop.

I found TWO 1920s lampshades...for FIVE dollars each
1 beautiful vintage 70s dress in the most gorgeous fine velvet which seems like it was made to measure for me TEN dollars
5 stunning vintage 50s birthday cards still in packets with envelopes and complete with glitter 25cents each
1 china tea caddy, 1930s with a lovely trellis pattern ONE dollar

Bugger me, I'm happy....I must return.

I'm not a dealer but I NEEDED those lampshades. Our house is 1920s and I've been longing for some original shades! Too expensive in antique shops though.

I only seen to do in charity shops these days just because there decent ones near my work.

Got two White Stuff jumpers that look barely worn, m&s jeans and a lovely silk scarf for £17. I love a potter around a decent charity shop.

Cindie I couldn't disagree more about there being better bargains in UK Charity shops.

Here in Australia things are still very cheap in charity shops....and in the UK, many spot the vintage things very quickly and overprice them.

Things for 50 pounds Iv'e seen when I know they're worth about15.

Primark t shirts for eight quid...etc.

I got a brand new pair of Sam Endleman boots for a tenner this week. Love them. [Envy] at the vintage lampshades though.

I think my best recent buy was a lovely scarf. Which had the tags on and turned out to be Liberty. They authenticated it for me, it was 75p.

I love a charity shop bargain. And your buys sound great. My sister lives in Bath (a fairly affluent UK city) and whenever I visit, I make straight for the charity shops. It has good quality vintage goods.

CheapSausagesAndSpam · 21/01/2018 17:26

Oh yes....the posh areas are the best!

I had a small scale good buy last week. My dd saw a hardback copy of the one David Walliams book she hadn't got - £3.95!!!! I refused to pay that (very book focused charity shop with great condition but not that cheap books)

The next week went in a different charity shop next town over found the same book (hardback again) in as new condition for 50p - very pleased with myself.

I think my best bargain was a .75 pence Maileg Mouse. They go for around £20. I don’t have too much luck in charity shops, but I suppose it’s because I usually browse kids’ games and book sections. Now tk maxx on the other hand... found a wool coat for DH other month for £66. Still on the retailer’s website selling for over £800.

Not so much charity shops here but I keep an eye on the local auctions. I've a 19 century cottage so a lot of the house clearance things are perfect.

One of my favourite bargains is my dining set - inlaid wooden table that expands to seat eight, together with glass cover, and six chairs and two carvers, all with hand made canvas work seats with a floral design where the background is nearly the same colour as the walls. Price was £50 plus auctioneer fee and delivery.

Beautifully made, hand made wooden toy castle, which comes apart and packs into its own “motte” to slide under a bed for storage. £3.50.

Best bargains ever, LV Pochette and YSL smoking jacket, £20 each, Dior silk scarf for £10. All in fab condition. Wimbledon/Fulham charity shops

Quite few COS tops in my local charity shop

ATailofTwoKitties · 21/01/2018 17:37

DS bought a Ted Baker wool coat at Oxfam for a fiver, with a couple of buttons missing.
He wrote to Ted Baker to ask if he could buy replacement buttons, and they sent him some, free, by return post.
He was more than chuffed with that!

PicklingGherkins · 21/01/2018 17:38

I went to my first auction last year and got a beautiful eternity ring for an absolute bargain. I miss a good charity shop rummage.

MockneyReject · 21/01/2018 17:44

I generally only shop in charity shops/eBay.
I rarely find hidden gems like I used to. They're too professional now, and know the value of stuff. Most are run as businesses, now.
I know of a few 'old skool' shops, dingy and cluttered, with that familiar old smell, and they're by far the most interesting.
Of course, the modern, clean shops have their place, but rummaging for bargain finds like the OP's (well done, BTW, OP; I'm well jel!) are getting fewer and further between.

Having said that, today I was wearing DM biker boots, River Island skinny jeans, and a khaki Gap silk shirt dress. With the (?) navy wool coat, plus gloves and scarf I had on earlier, I was head to toe charity shop - total spend £34.50.Smile

I love charity shopping. Last weekend I got a couple of lovely tea light holders for only £2 each. I'm so pleased with them as they match my decor and my other candle holders perfectly.

I love a charity shop rummage. We're lucky that we've got some quite good ones near us (and DH reckons I keep the one in our village going!).

Recent purchases in our village shop are a men's Zara herringbone tweed coat for DH and a fake fur coat for me (which I love and makes me feel very glamorous!) - both for £25. Also a couple of recent paperbacks - £1.50 for the two.

My favourite bargain is my unlined canvas military style jacket. I went off to our local town to have a look for one. Went all over and couldn't find anything. At last gasp went in the Sue Ryder shop on the way to the station and found exactly what I was looking for, Jasper Conran for Debenhams for the princely sum of £4.50. Came home, popped it in the washing machine and then hung it up to dry, and wore it to work on the Monday. I was well chuffed!
