I'll try to make this quick, I am 56 been in current role for 17 years so have built up good service terms in holiday, redundancy, pension and currently work 70% which I find is a great balance as I have a health condition where I am always tired (never had a day off tho). Was TUPEED from council to massive organisation where there are only a few of my original colleagues left and we have moved to a crap location.
I applied for a job and felt sick when the interview came through (don't know why I put myself thru this!) I am worried that if (and yes I know its an if) I get this post how I'd cope learning a new role and FT work. Yes, I'd be better off 15K to 22K and I'd still have my terms and pension BUT it's for 6 months temp and no guarantees it'd carry on so I would have lost everything then. I am finding I have already talked myself out of it but know my current situation is horrible would you carry on to 60, it's 3 years and 11 months to go WWYD

With the lack of stability and guaranteed work after six months it would be a risk, is it one you can afford to take to seek a happier work place?

Others are telling me Oh, it'll be extended but I asked and they said it's dependant on someone' else's temporary promotion

I have never been a risk taker so fear anything new that's out of my comfort zone

I had the opportunity to apply (and high chance of getting it) for a more interesting job recently but it was for 4 years with no extension. Currently have two secure jobs as sole wage earner and would have to give them up. I guess the need to pay the mortgage/rent/bills is more important so I had to let the fixed term go. It largely depends on your financial situation - if you have an OH in the household who is earning, then go for it.
