To think I should outsource ironing

Or just to stop wearing clothes that need ironing altogether.
We have two small kids and it just feels like a waste of time. When they are awake we want to spend time with them, and when they go to bed we are to tired.
Do you iron your clothes?

Only DH work shirts and he will do them if I don’t get round to it.

AnneLovesGilbert · 20/01/2018 20:41

Never. DH irons his shirts.

Merryoldgoat · 20/01/2018 20:42

I send mine out. I hate it, would rather spend the time on something else and the ironing lady is both faster and better at it than I am.

bobstersmum · 20/01/2018 20:44

I find no need to iron, apart from dh work shirts. If you fold or hang straight from the dryer there should be no need? I wouldn't pay for ironing.

ILoveDolly · 20/01/2018 20:46

I pay my cleaning lady to do it. I'm not that rich I just realised long ago that I would rather outsource housework than have money for hair and nails.

jemmstar1980 · 20/01/2018 20:46

Outsourced - life is too short!

RandomMess · 20/01/2018 20:47

Just stopped it!! Took more care hanging things up to dry, chose minimal iron stuff and stopped.

ChristmasTablecloth · 20/01/2018 20:50

As pp have said, the only things that really need ironing are 100% cotton work shirts and similar. So if it is too onerous for you to do those (with any adult you live with doing their own) by all means outsource it.

I iron about 4 or 5 items per week max. Dh similar.

stickytoffeevodka · 20/01/2018 20:51

I've never ironed anything in my life. Never owned an iron. DP is a plasterer so never needs to iron work shirts or anything like that.

I have better things to do with my time.

chickenowner · 20/01/2018 20:53

It's easy to buy clothes that don't need ironing - apart from my DPs work shirts, but I told them I wouldn't be ironing them for him when we moved in together!

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/01/2018 20:56

What is this 'iron' of which you speak?

GroggyFroggy · 20/01/2018 20:57

What items do you iron OP?

user1495362060 · 20/01/2018 21:00

We iron cotton/cotton mix work shirts - mine and his.
However neither of us really has to wear them - we have no dress code at work.

I iron loads, including dh boxers lol
But I am super quick, and dh goes to work and earns lots of money so I can stay home and study watch TV and drink coffee

DarthArts · 20/01/2018 21:21

I outsourced the ironing to DH as he's the wally who owns clothes that actually need ironing Grin.

5foot5 · 21/01/2018 00:39

We used to outsource ironing. She charged by weight. It was great but eventually we had to make economies and stopped.

We do it now on Saturday afternoon. DH does his share, we spilt it 50/50. I think some things really do still need ironing although I am increasingly buying the sort of shirt that doesn't. However, DH works in the sort of place he has to wear a proper shirt that really does have to be ironed. Like I said, he does his share.

Floralnomad · 21/01/2018 00:41

Anything that needs ironing here goes to the ironing lady , she collects on Tuesday and delivers it back on Wednesday .

5foot5 · 21/01/2018 00:43

I outsourced the ironing to DH as he's the wally who owns clothes that actually need ironing .
Does he have a choice though? As per my previous post, DH works somewhere he has to wear that sort of shirt it's not by choice.

5foot5 · 21/01/2018 00:45

FloralNomad Ah yes, we had that luxury! She was called Sybil. Bless her.

riledandharrassed · 21/01/2018 00:47

Don’t even own an iron 😂 hang when wet.

Dp doesn’t iron his shirts over winter as he wears a jumper over them everyday ... I’m sure he’s looking forward to summer ironing ;)

meandmytinfoilhat · 21/01/2018 00:48

My ironing gets sent out.

I may iron the odd uniform when needed.

theoldtrout01876 · 21/01/2018 01:00

30 years ago when I first arrived in the USA I used to do peoples ironing. It was mostly mens suit shirts. Starched and ironed. I got $7 a shirt all those years ago. I also HATE ironing with a passion, but a few years in the military means Im good at it, and never iron my own stuff but needed cash so did that. Easy money

I used to clean houses too and got $20 an hour. Again good money 30 years ago. I did live in a very affluent town though Grin

LettersAndNumbers · 21/01/2018 03:07

We have a housekeeper / nanny but even she is selective about what's ironed or not.

We don't only buy non-iron clothes but it is a consideration. DCs school uniform shirts are ironed of course. Their trousers go in a trouser press.
